13 April, Fontana Inn
I had trouble sleeping last night so I searched the web for shin splints. I read wear if they were not so bad that stretching the calf muscle might help. I did some calf muscle stretches. That seemed to help until I fell asleep. When I woke this morning the pain was completely gone in my shin. However my left knee pain was extremely painful. I had also overslept to almost 9 am. It was suppose to be an 11 mile day. Seeing that it would take me an hour to pack and ...

Ha, had to do that.

Well, sadly I have very little AT experience (will be changing that) and I would live to thru-hike, but I don't know if that will happen any time soon.

Until then, I content myself with short hikes, usually around my home state of CT, but once or twice a year I do get up to glorious NH and hike up Mt Washington....one of my goal is to get all 48 4000' before I am 48.

Anyway, right now I am working from home, and looking outside....it ...

I was wrong on my journal entry yesterday thinking that my slack pack today was 14 miles, it was 15.1. I started at 7:30 this morning and finished at 1:30 this afternoon. Six hours to cover 15 miles, I impressed myself.

I ran into Snowman and Escargo just north of Brown Gap Shelter. They said they would be into Fontana tomorrow.

Most of the day was easy going. I took lots of pictures of flowers. Closer to the end of the day ...

11 April 2020, Stecoah Gap
I decided on doing a short day to stick with Hopper and stay as a group. Hopper had to get to Fontana Dam to get Ben to the dog kennel. Dogs are not allowed in the Smokey Mountains on the AT so Hopper has to kennel Ben until she gets to the northern end of the Smokey Mountains.

I am going to get taken back to Stecoah Gap in the morning (Monday) and slack pack into Fontana Dam. This will make a 14.0 mile day for me. Then we will head out on Tuesday ...
