AT#14 VA James River Footbridge to Bearwallow


With Montgomery


Started at 11:45 and hiking 15 miles past Matts Creek Shelter at 2:32 for lunch. Stayed at Thunderhill Shelter. Passed by apple orchard with small crab apples. Water was on trail close to Shelter. 5/2/12 Hiked to the famous Guillotine and took pics. On our way to Bryant Ridge Shelter at 4:90pm good water source and privy. Saw some interesting lichen and mushroom plants on the way; see pics.
5/3 Hiked 10 miles to Bearwallow Gap and car. Then went to lunch at Peaks of Otter on the way home. Saw unusual ferns on trail as well beautiful Mountain Laurels and Moss.
