Rice Field Shelter – Pine Swamp Branch Shelter – Angels Rest Hiker’s Haven

Rate this Entry

Had an opportunity to go on another quick section. This time I went South to Pearisburg to hike up to the Rice Field Shelter. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while on a cool clear day to see the sunset. This trip did not disappoint! After a long drive down, I chose to stay overnight at Angels Rest Hiker’s Haven (hostel / campground). They were very well organized and the facilities were clean and the people there were awesome. I’d highly recommend stopping here if you need a zero. Conveniently located near a Food Lion, Mexican restaurant, Dairy Queen, and Pizza. I was also able to leave my car there and they shuttled me up to the next trailhead North, Peter’s Mountain trailhead at VA635. I hiked South from there 20.9 miles back to Cross Ave., near Angels Rest Hiker’s Haven. This route takes you by Pine Swamp Branch Shelter, The Allegheny Trail Southern terminus, and Rice Field Shelter.
