REI Half Dome 2 Tent Review

Rate this Entry
Specs:
3 season
2 person
4lb 15 oz
6" x 21" packed
40" peak height
2 doors
3 poles
Freestanding

Why I like it:
The tent is comfortable and durable, with plenty of room where you want it. It's excellent quality for an amazing price.

Durability:
The tent stays put whether pitched atop a windy mountain or in a storm. Made of ripstop nylon and 70D fabric (floor), the tent stays put.

Rainfly:
75D polyester
The rainfly stays put in windy, stormy conditions and keeps you and your gear dry. The rainfly come out beyond the doors to the tent, so even if you unzip the fly, the tent's interior doesn't get water dripping in.
The fly also rolls up for ventilation and breathability, and rolls down in a flash when the weather takes a turn.

Assembly:
The tent is easy to assemble especially thanks to the hub system.

Breathability:
The rainfly is large enough to sit away from the tent's interior encouraging breathability. The fly can also be rolled up (or down) quickly if necessary. The tent is larger than most other 2 person tents, so there's plenty of room.

Footprint:
Sold Separately

Overall:
The quality of product you get with any REI product is excellent, and this tent is no exception. At the $200 price point, most consumers wouldn't expect such a versatile and comfortable tent. It's a bargain, and you get 10% back with REI's membership. It's a tent that is great for the not so weight conscious backpacker or for someone looking for a lightweight, easy set up car camping tent for 2. The Half dome is available in multiple different fly colors for added personalization.

*REI also makes the Half Dome 2 plus tent for taller campers as well as the Half Dome 4.
**REI has a wide variety of tents for many activities that are excellent quality for a great price.
