How do I change user name

You can not change your user name. We have to change it from this end. We have no problem changing user names. All we ask is that you do a search through the membership list to make sure the name that you wish to use is not being used already. If it is not being used write us with your current user name and the new one that you would like to change it to.

Editing your posts

You can not edit your own posts. If you would like to edit your posts for up to 15 days after you have posted, you will have to become a Donating Member.
If you really feel the need to edit one of your post and it has gone past the time limit for editing it you can always contact us and ask us to edit it for you.

How do I delete my account

We do not delete accounts on this web site. It is not that we cannot, it is because if we do it disrupts the thread content. Also if we delete your account and someone else logs on and uses the same user name that you have then other people may assume it is you.

We are not trying to sound rude because this is not how we mean this to come across but we do not know of any other way to say it. If you do not want to participate in this web site no more than just do not log onto the web site any longer.

If you are not going to participate on the site any longer and want to stop receiving emails and private messages and any other traffic from this web site then you need to do the following steps.

Log onto the web site with your user name and password.
Go to this URL http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions
Make sure all the check marks are removed in all the questions in the “Messaging & Notification” options boxes
Go to this URL http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/subscription.php
If anything shows up under “Subscribed Threads in Folder” then you need to put a check mark in the box to the right for each item and scroll down towards the bottom of the page and click on the drop down box to the right of “Selected Threads” and click on “Delete Subscription” and then click GO. You need to do this until everything is removed.

If you do all these steps then you should not receive any traffic from this web site anymore.

If there is anything else I can help you with please let us know.

Change to Google search

We have added new option for searching the web site. We are giving you the option to use Google to search WhiteBlaze.

By default you search the site with our current software search features. If you would like to change this option and use the Google search feature, you can do this by following these steps.

1. Go to you Settings http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/usercp.php
2. Go to General setting http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/prof...do=editoptions
3. Scroll to the bottom until you see “Search Type”.
4. Pick the option in the drop-down search type that you would like to use.

Searching for a members location

The only way to do a search for members and there location would be to go to the MEMBERSHIP LIST--> SEARCH MEMBERS--> ADVANCED SEARCH. Then once in there fill in the location block for the area you want to search.

The only downfall to this is that it all depends on how the person typed in their location. If they typed something like “Portland, Me.” and you type “Portland Maine” then it will not find it. It has to be exact. If they abbreviated there stat and you try to do a search for everyone in “Me” then it is going to find every with “me” in it line “meridian” and things of that nature. This is why I have the not when registering to type out the whole name of the stay and not to abbreviate it.

What are Group memberships?

If sometimes you get a error message saying “You do not have permission to access this page”. The chances are that it is a subscription forum. WhiteBlaze has a section of forums on the site that you have to subscribe to in order to read. The forums are for either very sensitive discussions that have gotten out of hand or have nothing to do with the Appalachian Trail. We do this in order to keep the main part of WhiteBlaze about the Appalachian Trail, but have provided an area for that those want to discuss other things not relating to the AT, so that those that do not want to read it do not have to.

If you get this message then go to your USERCP in the navigation bar and scroll down the left side until you see GROUP MEMBERHSIPS and click on it. From here you will be able to subscribe to these other forums. After you have done this you should be able to see the posts that you may not have been able to see before.

Reputation

The way the user reputation works is based on other users in the forum giving you reputations points. If a user really likes the content of your post then they can click on the reputation icon and approve of you post and leave a comment. They can also disapprove of your post and leave a comment and take away reputations points. The system administrator does not have anything to do with your reputation. It is given to you by other users.

Search FAQ

Select this option if you would like your search to look in the text of FAQ items as well as their titles.

Select an option here to specify how you would like your search query to be treated. 'Any words' will return the most numerous but possibly least relevant results, while 'Complete phrase' will return only results that contain exactly what you are searching for.
