I plan on doing the steps at Amacola Falls on Feb 2t and the rest of the approach trail on the 18th. Looking for a partner to start the trail north. I am 65 and looking forward to the trip.

I can't start with you as I have section hiked from Springer to Clingman's Dome. And Feb. is way too early for me - there will be snow above 5,000 feet in the Smokies. But I might be able to catch up to you at some point. I take my car with me so I can have it there waiting for me after a 3 or 4 day stretch. Then I don't have to worry about a shuttle. I go into town and get a meal, room, and resupply. To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, it's about the journey, not the destination. I look at rocks sometimes, being a geologist, and I have learned the "fool proof four" edible wild mushrooms to add to my trail meals. I am a very experienced woodsman and a combat veteran, late dad, father of two sons, no ties, no commitments.
