I get chaffing if I go commando. Instead, I'll be wearing compression boxer-briefs from Target (C9 brand). I've been using them for years for athletics and hiking in all forms of weather - hot, freezing, dry, rainy, snowy, windy... I have yet to get any sort of chaffing while wearing them.
No way Under armour underware all the way
Thruhiking in 2012? No.
Commando? All the time (with a little help from Body Glide occasionally). :)
those compression shorts do the trick for me but can be on the expensive side. they are worth the money though since they tend to be durable and last a long time. beware of buying cheaper brands, they ussually have seams in wierd places or just seams that are rough and end up chaffing you anyway. this is not a one brand suits all situation, make sure you thoroughly test out what you plan to bring on ur thru beforhand or you may pay dearly for it, and I dont mean just out of your wallet ;)
Not going comando.Last time I only won....5th place:D
No commando on my thru hike attempt this year.
So far I've tried Under Armor, REI, C9 and Exoffolio (spelling?) synthetic boxers.
I prefer the C9 surprisingly.
i ain't wore underwear in 30 years
underware makes me chafe.

Too much bouncing around of my package. I can't do that. I carry one pair of those breathable type you can get at REI. They work good with the chafing as long as you stay out of hard rains.
Ex Officio boxer briefs. One pair lasts the whole Trail. A perfectly good investment ($18 on Campmor right now) if you ask me.
I just got a pair of Ex Officios myself. Quite comfortable. Needless to say, I will not be going without...er, support. :D
Richard and the boys need something. :)
Another vote for Exoficios. I started with Under Armor last year, but I was getting chaffing anyways. Made the switch in Fontana, and had no problems after that.
used to wear underwear, then switched to compression shorts and it was too hot. i prefer free, and don't chafe at all.

Free is good!
Hell no. Go with either Duluth Trading Co.'s 'Buck Naked' underwear, or Exofficio's 'Give-N-Go' underwear. They're both the same, and you'll regret going commando after trying these.
