I am in Johnson city, Tn waiting on a ride to the trail and I happened upon this thread. I feel compelled to make some corrections. Firstly, I am not a true NOBO....I started in Maine and hiked to DWG; and then I drove a homeless veteran to Georgia and I headed north from Springer. So I am obviously flipping this hike; however, when I do get to DWG I intend to return to Georgia and begin a NOBO thru hike. I have only done SOBO thru hikes, so 2007 should be different.
I had to get off the trail in mid November and I spent a month in the VA hospital here in Johnson city because I have Panreatitis. The illness is because of my hard drinking past, but my life now is dedicated to the homeless veterans out there and to the hiking community who helped me when I had nothing. Anyway, I guess I have said enough, but you can read my journal if you want to know what I am all about. Take care all! Just Jim
