The best defence/weapon you can carry on the trail and in life is your head. Just use it and u will be ok. I solo hike all the time dayhikes and mutiple overnight hikes and thats what I would say.

Yes their are plenty of car rental places in Bristol.

Same here. I would die for a coke coming of the trail. The sad thing is I don't realy drink coke and don't like it that well.

I was just up the other day and water is a trickle. But still plenty of water. About the most reliable water on this section.

also right now the only reliable water sources in Catawba are at Campbell shelter and Catawba shelter until we get some more rain.

You have 311 going to dragon's tooth or Mcafee's knob
the lower entrace of the Dragon tooth trail which is past the first 311 parking lot closer to catawba.
