Very Nice!!!
I've thru-hiked the PCT in 2016 so I'm used to rough & remote county but have minimal knowledge of the CDT. Myself & few guys are planning a 2021 late August loop on the CDT, flying in & out of...
Kings is extremely rugged!! If you're not experienced, I would suggest hiking from Glacier Pointe, (just above of YV) & doing the Red Peak Pass loop back to YV @ 50 miles, or you can go over...
I did it on the PCT in 2016, it's a bit more expensive, but gives Much More Freedom to your Adventure!! On the AT it's much easier, you'll hit a road every 2-3 days & you wont need an overly stuffed...
I hope you sued them!! I've encountered this too many times to be nice to irresponsible dog owners :/
It sounds like a typical PCT thru-attempt, I did the same on 2016, touched the N terminus on 7/1, ran into a fire in Ashland, OR. hitched around it, hiked down to Tehachapi to knock out the Sierra's,...
Sobo is the best way to go!! I hiked the PCT sobo in 2016 & have hiked over 1300 sobo on the AT. You’ll avoid crowds & party bubbles and find plenty of time for yourself in nature and as much traimly...
After hiking the PCT, I think I’ll train the same way, walk to restaurants/bars, within 5 miles, over stuff myself with food & drink & then cowboy camp on my patio.... repeat
I'm thinking of hitting Death Valley this Winter in February for a week (Car Camping). Can anyone give me insight on places to see, trails to hike or an overall guide to enjoying the best it has to...
This is that exact type of area, a place I have been hiking since the 90"s and have only seen a handful of hikers & most trips none. It's not the AT or any other long trail. I want to do a simple...
What is the elementary way to start writing a short guidebook? What tools are the best to use for mileage & elevation? Thanks
Sad incident indeed!! I was wondering if this man was provoked in some way to make him hunt down these particular hikers or if this was a total random event & these two victims were in the wrong...
I would hit "The Place" hostel when you 1st get to Trails Days & post on their ride board, that you need a ride to Bristol or Marion, should be a ton of folks going in both directions.
Agreed!! Thanks again!
Sorry, just curious, you say you're shut down for the season, do you not accommodate sobo's in Oct/Nov & Dec? Thanks
Sounds like a safer bet to grab a lift to Taylors Valley, take the switchbacks up & go from there. Thanks Gambit!
I noticed on Google Maps that there is a road called Saunders Rd. that come close to Saunders Shelter, is there an access trail to Saunders Shelter from there or is it easier to hike to the shelter...
The problem with leaving books behind is that the mice like to read them while no one is around & they have a tendency to chew while the read & and eventually the once was "book" is now a pile of...
Different weekend. Enjoy!!
Thanks!.....
I'm taking 7 guys on a really short sobo 15 miler to get some older guys back into backpacking and I am wondering if there are any sites from Allen Gap > Hot Springs that will accomodate 4-6 tents...
This is a solid plan, You can park at NFG, catch the bus into Cherokee (depending on when it runs) & then have someone from the NOC or a hostel near Fontana pick you up in Cherokee drop you off at...

Somewhere in the early 2000's I took the family to Gatlinburg on vacation & went to Clingmans. I noticed the Appalachian trail sign up there so I wondered off to check it out, after talking to a few...
