I used this stuff and it worked great with the 1443 Kite tyvek material. Even so, the tarp still weighs more than a .51 DCF ... (I'd have to dig it out to get the exact weight...)

As a hammock person myself, when the OP said "set up my hammock" my first thought was hanging the hammock between 2 trekking poles. Which is in fact possible but IMO not practical, and certainly not...
Yep, the OP's video link shows ground setup with hammock as a bivy. In that case any kind of trekking pole or found stick will work.
The issue isn't really the poles (unless there are literally no...

Glad to hear you're enjoying the cold-weather performance... I know I'm not going back to white gas with this option.
Regarding regulators, they're really just a gimmick and don't offer a lot....
You might find Mike Clelland's Ultralight Backpacking series on YouTube helpful.
Cam "Swami" Honan has a fantastic website that you might like, as does Alan Dixon. Oodles of good information on...
I use one of these Eagle Creek Pack-it cubes (no, it isn't a cube ) and sub-divide inside with Ziploc bags for meds, first aid, repair, spare spoon (GSI collapsible), platypus and Gatorade...
In that case I'd definitely get the V strap.
I think you're gonna be happy! :)
The V strap is only needed for a bear canister (or the like) carried on top, but it isn't a bad idea to order one any way. It does come with the single strap...
I think you'd be okay with both of those, but definitely spec both with 7d shell (in & out) and 950fp down for max compressibility.
Hmm... not a bad idea but I'm kinda thinking they won't sell them separately... maybe source them elsewhere(?), but they don't seem to be common items. I didn't measure yet but they look a skosh too...
I've been hammocking for a few years and have a pretty good feel for various quilts/tarps that are needed in different seasons.
I did a quick overnighter yesterday (got back this morning) and...
Yo Coach!
Sorry, I did not see the thread about MLK9. I'll look for it.
Trails were stupid-crazy busy during the height of Covid but it has settled down a lot, although it goes without saying...
Exactly. In the long run the real Kahtoolas are a far better choice. I, too, have seen the knock-offs shredded in no time flat. Sure, it's possible to have a freak situation and damage the Kahtoolas...
All the snow is gone, all the streams are running. It's like spring right now.
Glad I was able to get out for one night of actual winter-like conditions.
I'm just going with DCF these days, although as Miner notes the Zpacks material is a hybrid (DCF/polyester) laminate.
That said, I recently got the Arc Air, but in Robic. I like what I see so far...
Gobs of info here. And gobs of links to even more.
I also like eVent as a shell material and found it performed far better than GoreTex.
Closest thing I have found is Mont-Bell's 'Peak' and 'Rain Trekker' shells. Performance very similar to eVent...
YELLOW? GG??
That's crazy talk right there! :D
"It wasn't what they expected."
Indeed. A lot of navel gazing to make that simple point. I've always said "When it's not fun any more it's time to go home."
And I wouldn't give a rat's derriere...
This^^^ AFT loop has a little under 6000ft of climbing vs around 12000ft for BFT.

Comparing *thin* Ti and Al there is virtually no difference.
More than a decade ago I got pretty interested in stoves and efficiency and did a fair amount of quality testing, i.e. using...
Averaging ~47mi/day with East Coast heat and humidity... hmm.
I've settled upon Altra Lone Peaks. After various dalliances with other brands and even other models of Altra, I always come back to Lone Peaks.
