When we did the Mahoosucs several years back we used "Trail Angels" shuttle service. Not sure if he is still actively doing this but if you go to the WB homepage there's a listing of shuttle...
Garfield Ridge and north of Carter Notch hut to the ME border, especially through the Mahoosucs, are pretty rugged NH sections.
Enjoy, but curb your expectations once you hit the Mahoosucs. The Whites north of Pinkham Notch are no picnic either.
Keep it under 30 lbs, less if you can. I haven't yet had the opportunity to do an AT thru hike so I've been section hiking in the Whites of NH for 2-3 day stints the past 4 years. I peak out just...
I use a external Kelty from the late 80's. It's the only item I have that isn't lightweight or UL. Know I could shave a a good lb or two by going internal or frameless but for me it's a keeper....
I enjoyed "Southbound" by the Barefoot Sisters. Their sequel book "Walking Home" wasn't as good a read.

Try as I might just can't get below 32 pounds. Two years ago bought a 2 pound thermarest to save $40. Last year smartened up and bought the one pounder. Learning lessons don't come cheaply.
