FWIW, I've tried the Skeeter Beater sold here on the Outer Banks, didn't work for me but did make a nice room freshener.

Be careful coming down Dragons Tooth, there are iron bars for hand holds and may be tough for a dog. You can see 4 Pines Hostel from I think Rawles Rest, not sure if that is the right name for that...
Welcome to WB, and I always heard carrying a Buckeye (the nut) in your pocket was good luck, after you peel off that hard prickly green husk of course.
For a change of scenery have you tried Brush Creek Canyon or Volga River SP near Fayette? I would guess you have already done Backbone SP but just a little farther north is Yellow River and Pikes...
Just waiting for daylight, but so far no major flooding or damage here on the Outer Banks. Good luck farther north.
We got our eyes on Sandy here on the Outer Banks.
If I ever meet one of you Texas waddies who ain't drunk from a hoofprint, I think I'll....I'll shake their hand or buy em a Daniel Webster cigar.
Rooster Cogburn
Another vote for an external, got mine right here on WB, it's a Kelty and it's blue. It survived being flooded by Hurricane Irene, just hosed it off with a slight bleach solution and was good to go....
I'm right here. That makes two. I'm a bit above novice but as they say" I did climb Dragons Tooth north to south on my first day", (sidebar: don't do that). So yes I am interested. You could also...
It's the oil from the Penny Royal plant.

Found dead of exposure.
There is also Yellow River around Harpers Ferry. Beautiful views of the Mississippi river. Backbone is a wonderful park, make sure you walk the "Backbone", look for Columbines in the rock...
Rhymes with Merle and was meant to reflect I was a bit crazy (seem to be the norm then) in the late sixties early seventies.
Welcome to WB, there are now two of us here on the Outer Banks.
Thanks Bo, what an excellent use of the internet.
Good Luck everybody with this storm.
Try this one, wunderground.com. Were keeping a close watch here on the Outer Banks.
I took my Pacific Madrone staff (5'+) on Greyhound from Roanoke thru Richmond to E City NC with no problem. I just loaded my backpack underneath the bus myself and stuck the staff thru my backpack...
Though not a fan of Greyhound, I have used them. In the seventies two long distance trips were I expect normal bus travel, hard, hot, long and occasionally very fun and interesting. When I came...
It's easy to find southbound to, just turn left. If I'm not mistaken you can see Four Pines from (Rawles Rest)? after Dragoons Tooth, as you head north. I stayed there and everything was just fine....
There is an Osprey nest outside my back porch, maybe 150 feet away on a platform built for them, they use it year after year, wonderful to watch. They really don't hover (for long periods of time)...
You are correct, there is no bus to the Outer Banks, EC is the closest. If I remember right, it's a small gas station on the south side of town.
Hitchiking years ago to a trailhead my buddy and I got a ride from a car that already had four people in it. My buddy and I put our packs and other gear in the trunk, and on we went. Ten, maybe 15...
