I hated Crocs, sent them home after a few weeks. I went barefoot on the fords. It's all a matter of personal preference... Just like 99% of other gear choices!
During my thru the Steripen worked great for three weeks, then I changed batteries (expensive batteries) and it stopped working. I had a friend come out and his stopped working after three days. You...
For hammock hanging I only used the larks head that is all that is needed. For bear bag hanging and basically anything else the double half hitch!
I almost did this a couple years ago after a really bad day, almost just tossed my stuff in the car and left that night. I can identify just wanting to disappear and use the hike as an escape......

I'm an outlier, yay.
Harmony House makes some good meat substitutes that I'm taking this year.
I'm starting the approach trail on the 9th or 10th. I might see you, who knows?!

Add cheese, I hear it lasts between 1 hour and forever while on the Trail.
An extra pair of wool socks?
Wow - It's the Matrix. I see a leggy blonde eating a Clif bar...
Some places lack fuel, around an over-used shelter in a laurel grove it was hard to find enough sticks to use a Sierra Stove.
Tail Name: none so far
Direction: GAME
Estimated Start: April 10th
Approach Trail: absolutely
Also, UV light. The Steripen kills the creeps in the water too.
I worked with a Park Ranger in the Cascades that had been doing trail maintenance in the back country for years. His approach to a big hill was to take tiny steps. I followed suit, and my stamina...
I was gifted maps from here: http://www.theatguide.com/
I am satisfied with price, weight, and detail.
I also order the AT Guide last year for planning and this year (loose-leaf) for the...
I saw it last night and said, "Crap, the AT is main-stream now, I guess I gotta hike the CDT now instead..."
Hammondsport is not a bad town either, my bro lives near there. The Finger Lakes Trail goes right by there, if the charm of a small town is a Trail near-by! I voted for Damascus, though, as Trail...
