I like that idea. I'll probably do something along those lines. Thanks for the input.

Yes, that was my original thought, just have some quick things they can have and be on their way. I was thinking of setting up a few miles North of a shelter but not is a busy area. I understand your...
Haha, I know! But I sure enjoyed the soda on the trail in Dalton, MA, or the cookie lady or the guy in Vermont giving out ice cream (I heard he passed away last year) I'll do it for the people that...
How about small, unexpected trail magic?
I never thought of any hikers not liking something to eat besides Ramon noodles and power bars but I guess they can just hike on by if they don't like it.
I'm a trail maintainer as well on the NET and I'm as concerned about trash on the trails as you are.
Having section hiked from New Jersey to Katahdin over the past several years, I really enjoyed the good will of people along the way. Trail angels and trail magic always helped to make the hike more...
Wear ear plugs till you feel comfortable sleeping in a hammock. It keeps out all of the sounds of the woods.
I'd like to mark the power line area better but I've got a problem with ATV's there and don't want to advertise that section of the trail since the other part is pretty worn from the motor vehicle...
[QUOTE When was the trail moved into the woods?
[/QUOTE]
It was moved last year. there is still some issues with another landowner about a boundary line so it is not marked as well as it could...
Glad to hear you enjoyed the trail. I maintain the first 3 miles of the trail in Ct. and it was great to have the homeowner let us extend the trail thru his property. The MA trail maintainer takes...
There are a couple of views. We had the last 1/2 mile new section marked but then a homeowner found that it went of their property alittle so we are in the process of getting it moved a little but...
It's the New England Trail (formerly the Metacomet Trail.
We finally got approval from a homeowner to complete the trail in CT to the Rising Corners Rd intersection. The new trail was cut in on Friday, 5/17/2013. The 2+mile road walk can now be skipped.
It depends on what kind of shape you're in.
Thanks to all for the PM's
One year, I met a hiker that was using two cars for his thru-hike. He had the cars one hiking day apart. He would drive one car ahead by a day's hike and hike back to his other car and sleep there...
I figure no one would think of looking there for food, plus I could have room for alot of stuff. :-)
I know this is a 4+year old thread, but I'll be hiking this section next week and wondered if anyone knew if this lodge was still standing and available for overnight if I hit bad weather.
I see on the map that there is a small parking area at the trailhead, so I'll probably stash my food close to that location. I like the idea of the coffee can but what do you do with the can...
I'll be sectioning lower Maine at that time but I did the Whites last year and can tell you that you'll have all the company you need.
After 3 years, I finally finished my section hike of New Hampshire and will now be hiking the first 100 miles of Maine. I will be coming up from CT and leaving my car at White Birches Campground in...
+1 for Mass. It takes you through some towns for re-supply, easy hills, and nice views from Mt. Greylock.
Thanks for the information and website links. I'm going to get in touch with White Birches campground about leaving a car there and then either drive our other car to Hanover or find a shuttle to...
I'm planning on hiking with someone else, so a car left in Gorham area and the other being used to get us to Hanover and the Dartmouth parking lot. We're planning on starting around mid-August and...
