thank y'all for your input! i'm always looking for a way to get lighter w/o sacrificing comfort. i'm still fooling with a tarp & if i get comfortable with it "may" give it a try.
I always thought the higher insulated pad goes closer to your body.
Caleb, curious as to what pitch you mostly use with the tarp? i have a 7"x 9' Yama Mt. Gear flat tarp.
my Protrail come in at 25oz's, stuff sack, 4 stakes & guy lines. fits in the side pocket of my GG Kumo. so yes, light enough for me too. i was just curious as too what shelters other UL's use.
that's my current shelter
1P ,3 season ,yes
what's your ultralight shelter of choice?
Nice Gambit!! unfortunately my Sheltowee hike is on hold. i contracted covid early in Dec., had a very mild case, thank God. but the recovery has been a little tough. went on hike at frozenhead 3...
Thank-you fellas! appreciate the info!
what weather app do y'all use for the AT?
i use a Imusa 10cm mug which is 650ml. i put 12oz's of water, a package of knoors sides, a package of starkist chicken & 1/2 a cup of cheddar cheese. can substitute the knoors for ramen with same...
was there mid Oct 2020, tented but the shelter was clean and in good shape
i've hunted in them, after a couple of miles of walking i wish i had something else on my feet
GG sells this back pad for the Kumo. people who use it say that it helps with the sweat issue. i don't have a problem with sweating either and i backpacked all summer in Tennessee....
thanks Caleb...
well guys this thread is 2 years old so i'll update it. i bought the Gossamer Gear Kumo. i've had 4 days of food, 2 liters of water for a load out of 22 lbs. the pack was comfortable from day one...
i loved the chameleon 7's but the 8's they made a small change and it didn't feel right. so i returned them last week and went back to the moabs after a fail attempt with hoka speedgoats
i just bought my 5th pair of Moabs. i never had an issue with traction. i just bought the last pair 4 days ago & haven't hiked in them yet. i tried Hoka Speedgoats 4 and slipped in those shoes more...
Yes sir, that's the plan!
thanks Gambit, i just received the updated southern section maps. i don't have much left in TN to do. basically from gentlemens swimming hole to honey creek
thanks Gambit, i'm sure i'll have some questions. trying to get on trail before thanksgiving.
Hi Gambit, glad to see this post. i need to complete some of those sections. i was just up at the Station Camp Overlook last Weds. when you said "your group", are you hiking the Sheltowee Trace...
