I have size 12 hiking boots and size 12 winter boots which are probably around size 13 in normal shoes. For me, the larges work just fine.
Great stuff everyone! Much thanks for all the info!
I am thinking I might pass on this one due to the mixed reviews alongside the high price tag. If I decide to pop on a winter tent, more than likely it will be a BD Betamid or something simple and...
For the winter, if you are a during a quick overnight, you may be able to experiment with hand warmers. At least, this is an experiment I want to conduct this winter.
As others have already...
Why are companies no longer putting insulation in the bottom of their bags?
I see they argument with squished insulation and how it does not insulate. However, I would think that it is convenient...
You are right. The staking situation isn't the best in PA that is why my two current tents are mostly free standing. We have plenty of rocks here, making it difficult to find soil suitable for...
Anyone try these Mountain Hardwear hoop tents? Here is one for example, http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Hoopster%E2%84%A2/OU9614,default,pd.html.
After checking them out a bit online, they...
Thanks guys.
I am thinking that instead of taking the thermolite liner or bivy approach might not be the best route. Instead, I think it may be worth making sure I have proper clothing to wear...
Thanks Tipi. I appreciate your feedback.
I think I might try one of those SOL Escape Bivys to extend the range of my bag beyond its 15 degree rating. Other than that, I think I have mostly what I...
I am new to this, but I found that I am not terribly interested in the ultralight craze, given I am not a thruhiker by any means. After purchasing all my gear, I realized all of the ultralight gear...
I have this one.

It is pretty small, and the price is hard...
Kayaking looks like a lot of fun.
Do to camping from a kayak does it require one of those big "touring" style kayaks?
People always make fun of me when they ask me what my favorite sports teams are. I never have an answer for them. It always goes, "Well I guess if I had to pick someone it would be [INSERT]." I never...
Along the AT and various other trails I've managed to find some nice natural rock formations. Maybe they'd be fun to climb on! :)
That's a good catch! I am on the patrol with craigslist.
As for climbing, it appears to me like the full on traditional climbing may be a bit expensive for me to get into. Bouldering seems to be a...
I guess for mostly flat water. We have a big river with many islands on it that I always thought would make for some fun canoeing. It would be enjoyable to also have the option to go some streams...
Dogs are cool!!!
I am interested in canoeing, but I am still doing some research on what type of canoe to get. I hope to find one that I can maneuver myself, but is large enough to carry another...
Obviously, if you browse this site you enjoy hiking in some capacity, but what other activities or hobbies do you partake in to occupy your time?
For me, school keeps me fairly busy. So at this...
I am pretty sure this coupon works on EVERYTHING on their site. Pretty sick deal considering in past years the First Ascent gear was typically excluded from any sales. It's a nice time to grab some...
At a Marshall's store I picked up a "Hind" brand windshirt for $13. After reading plenty about the greatness of windshirts, I figured I'd give it a go at that price. It ended up weighing in at 4.5oz...
Being a student, I had to take the frugal path to gearing up. First off, I'd like to say its better to buy nice stuff first, preventing you from rebuying in the future and totaling a greater overall...
Thanks!!
I'll definitely have to get over to the shelter sometime soon! Thank you for the opportunity to help out here and there. I really enjoyed that day.
Oh. On my scale it is coming in at 3.4 oz
It seems to be pretty comfortable from what I can tell by testing it around the house. Not to mention, the rugged material seems to be both durable yet comfortable when in contact with your face....
