I hiked the JMT southbound in 2016, and wrote the following posts reviewing my gear and food choices:
JMT Gear List & Review
JMT Food & Resupply Review
I hope these posts are helpful...
For those who were following my JMT trail journal posts, I have finally completed the rest of the journal entries (up to Day 16, when I reached the top of Mt. Whitney and then exited the trail). Hope...
For all of you who have asked when I will post again, I recently posted "Day 9" of my trip. I hope to post future entries roughly once a week until completed.
That is such a great change! I updated my permit post to reflect the recent changes.
I wrote about how to get a permit here. Getting a permit is difficult, but if you apply correctly every day and have some flexibility, you will hopefully get one :)
Thank you! I love reading other hikers' journals and wanted to finally contribute some posts of my own :)
I wrote about that too :)
I wrote this post about the planning I did in the winter/spring before going on the hike. However, the most important thing to think about is the wilderness permit. It's...
Sorry... I put the button for day 9 but there's nothing there yet. Although the posts aren't very long, they always take forever to write. I'll post more soon! :)
Thanks, I hope to post again soon!
Posting my trail journal has made me impatient to hit the trail again, too! I'd love to do the SHR someday, though I'd need to improve my navigational skills before trying something like that....
Thank you! It's been great to re-live the experience by writing about it and going through all of my photos. I'm already thinking about my next big hike!
I completed the JMT in 16 days last summer, and have written about the first eight days of the trip (including both the highlights and the mishaps along the way). Part two of my trail journal should...
I have the frosted one, and love it! It really gives off a pleasing, soft light. I've only used it at home though, so I'm not sure how it performs while backpacking.
Here are some more I've heard of:
Cairn (until sold out)
Special edition hiker gift box
I just completed a traditional SOBO JMT hike this summer and enjoyed it, but I also think doing the HST along with the JMT is a great idea. Although it adds extra miles, the HST is beautiful and...
I took the Sequoia Shuttle (which you should reserve online) to the park from Visalia (can be reached by Amtrak or bus from LA). I thought the shuttle ride was quite scenic and would happily use it...
I did a trip starting out of Crescent Meadow before, and altitude was not an issue. I loved starting from there... the sequoias were amazing and public transportation to the trailhead was hassle-free...
No problem! I really loved my time on the trail, and am happy to share information with other hikers.
I hiked the JMT SOBO from late July through early August, and wrote about what worked and what didn't with food and resupplies. Hopefully it is helpful to those planning on doing the JMT in 2017 and...
I bought the Anker PowerCore 10,000 mAh Portable Charger which only weighs 6.32 ounces according to my scale. It is the lightest 10,000 mAh charger that I've come across in my research, so that's why...
I flew with my inreach in my carry-on, along with all of my other electronics. I had no problems.
Although I strongly prefer to pack lightly, I think it's very important to have a comfortable backpack (comfort is more important than weight, if you have to choose just one). If your Gregory pack is...
I've never experienced (or ever heard of) any sort of smell like that. I never store my tent wet, and it dries quickly anyway.
Thank you!! I certainly learned a lot simply by going out on the trail and figuring out what my preferences are (it can be hard to know that when you're a beginner!). I definitely agree that "there...
