to answer your questions:
1. yes you can stay plenty dry in a hammock. i started w/ a smaller tarp and learned how to pitch it smartly. later i graduated to a larger tarp (that was cuben, for no...

i have seen a lot of exos 58's on thrus on the AT in the past few years. i used one for 2 or 3 years and really liked it. i started out w/ an aether, but soon realized it was just way too heavy...

stick: recommend taking a windshirt, losing the extra batteries for the headlamp. just check it before you go.

the 800 fill will also pack smaller and maintain loft resiliency if that is a concern to you...
my summer UL pack doesn't have a hip belt. :D most of me weight is food, so as the days dwindle the pack gets light enough that it doesn't bother my shoulders....
summer in maryland to me says "don't wear the rain jacket while hiking". save it for camp and and enjoy the shower. that info leads me to recommend you save a ton of money and just get a dri-ducks...
if you wear an XL this would save you some serious scratch if you were ok in the 15 oz range...

i'd suggest some shorter practice runs first. load up your pack w/o the ccf pad and take a dayhike. go short, like 3 miles. then gradually build it up. if you are exeriencing pain after 4 or 5 hours...
watched 1/2 of the circling alaska video. pretty awesome man. you are an inspirational adventurer taking off on such a quest...
i had and really liked my exos for 500 miles back in 2008-09. i was on the lightweight spectrum then (under 15 lbs) and have since moved into an even lighter area. i had no need for the frame and...
-water bottles/treatment
-TP
-map
-consider taking a ccf pad in case your neoair decides to get a leak (which seems to happen quite a bit)
-down jacket (or is that included in "extra clothes")...
there's something very macho about having a hatchet in the woods :D
that and splitting firewood to get a really nice fire is pretty excellent..
