Don't be fooled by the weight of a pack alone. If pack A weighs twice as much as pack B but has a better suspension system and distributes the load more naturally over your bodies center of gravity...
I beg your pardon?..I did none of the things you mention..I am entitled to an opinion as well as anyone..Just because it differs from yours or isn`t what you can to hear on the subject doesn`t make...
Oh..How WAS my hiking..Yes it is a simple question when it`s worded completely..My hiking has been fine thank you.

I went up to do a day hike on the AT in Maryland today and after going a few miles I said screw this and headed back..Brutally hot and humid..I then headed down for a walk on the flatter and shadier...
I think the majority of these guided Everest treks use the North Col route and avoid the icefall...But my 2-3 days was for the actual summit climb from ABC and up..Maybe it`s more like 4..You spend a...
True but at least you know it`s just the next day or 2-3 days max..If you get tired or homesick or even bored on the AT you know you`ve still got 4-5 months to go yet til you can go home..I think...
Well it might be hard to type those words and NOT be at a computer :D... I don`t think anyone is saying climbing Everest isn`t a great physical achivement and doesn`t have dangers but at the same...
Is it just me or does anyone else notice that it seems a lot of typing errors appear in your posts when you know you didn`t mis-spell anything...
2008:..290 summits so far on Everest (1 death)

I hate to break it to you but Everest is now a tourist trap and many who go there have no idea what they are doing..People go ahead and clear trails..lay out ropes and ladders..have the camps set up...
I don`t know..I think there was a higher percentage of successful summits of Everest last year than there were completed thrus :p
.....Not that there`s anything wrong with that
I think you are not going to get much support on this one..I agree with you that there are some cases where things are just "in your face" obvious but I found that pretty much no one else here...
I was offline for over a month recently and didn`t go back and search everything I missed while I was gone so forgive me if this has been covered already:
AT Speedhike/run record attempt

I think it all comes down to WHY you are on the trail in the first place...For many people the community and associated rituals are the main reason they are there..For others they want to avoid all...
I`m sure going Waynesboro-Duncannon in like 13-14 days didn`t help his feet either
Following a thread in another forum got me to wondering..If one wanted to how much of the route that Earl Shaffer hiked on his Walking with Spring is still part of the AT as it exists today?...And if...
Hmmm..Suppose they give you an "alternate route" which is a blue blazed trail?...At one point in MD you come to a split and the signs both read "AT- North" except one is an "alternate route" so you...
Congrats..Duncannon is where I had to give up on my 77' thru attempt due to lack of funds..But considering I made it from Springer to there on just $250 I consider that an accomplishment:)....Of...
Unless part of the trail runs thru the Castro District of San Francisco I don`t have a further guess :p
Aww..Poor Kirby..I didn`t mean to stir up any hornets when I mentioned his SNP hiking..I was just being facetious...The trail thru there so closely parallels the Skyline Drive it`s basically the same...
My very first ever solo backpacking trip when I was 16 was down the AT from I-70 to the C&O Canal..Up to Harpers Ferry and then down the canal to DC..Not much I know, but for a 16 year old kid on his...
Just got done reading Kirbys Trail Journal entries for Waynesboro-MD... That boy sure does hate rocks! Did I misread something or did he walk more miles on Skyline Drive than he did on the AT thru...
