Thanks a million for this! I was dreading trying to figure out how to do all that after last attempt failed. One question about the free maps: Do you have any knowledge as to their accuracy? The...
Thanks Sly, I'll get to those videos.. eventually. Most of my time is taken up working to save for the hike but I do get around to things eventually :) Watching Cookie and Paul has gotten me excited...
I think I'll watch this one tomorrow. It looks like a much easier watch than Lynne Whelden's 6 hour "How to hike the Continental Divide Trail".. I'll get to that one eventually.
Thanks guys, I'm going South in mid June next year. I'll check out Yogi's and Wolf's guides too, I was just looking for personal preferences like about the Winds and stuff like that. And don't worry,...
Sorry if this has already been discussed to exhaustion, but I had a look through here back to 2010 and couldn't see much on the topic. I was just wondering what preferences or recommendations people...
Regarding logistics, somebody posted this on the CDT 2013 facebook page, it looks like it will be quite useful: http://www.soruck.net/cdt/
Nope, I'm just planning like you, I'm heading Sobo next year if all goes according to plan. If you haven't already, you should check out the CDT 2013 facebook page. There's a lot of people on there.
I've found this website quite helpful for getting a feel for the trail:
http://www.pmags.com/a-quick-and-dirty-cdt-guide
They're maps of the official CDNST with water sources and other points of interest along the trail. Yogi's CDT Guide already provides the information you need for towns and planning.
Is anyone planning on filming this? I'd like to go but it'd cost me about $3000 to get there and back..
Awesome, pick me! Pick me! Already sent my email :)
Yeah.. I probably will end up buying them eventually.. I have another 6 month to decide, though
My trail name on the AT was actually Dundee, but I had a disappointingly small knife..
"Australian" knife huh? That's racist! :)
Thanks that's some useful info. I wish I'd chosen a calm place when I tried to ford the Yellowstone. For some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to do it right before some rapids. Luckily my bag...
Hey guys, I just have a quick question about the dangers of fording rivers on the CDT. I had a little incident while hiking the backcountry of Yellowstone NP this year that has maybe me somewhat wary...
that's a bit of a worry! I guess if worst comes to worst, I can just road walk for the snowed out sections. Thanks for the tips
Cool thanks, I didn't think of that.
Just wondering if anyone else on here is planning a SoBo thru hike for next year? If so, what time are you planning on starting? From what I've read, mid June seems to be the earliest people start,...
I only got lost enough to need my GPS once. I call it a good day :) Quite lucky actually, because as soon as I turned it on it said "low battery"
Haha I'll put one in my "in case of emergency" kit
Okay thanks guys, I'll probably just get a cheapish compass from REI when I get there then. It sounds like it's not as difficult as I thought it may be, but then it's different for everybody I...
Thanks spoke, I'll check it out soon.
Fiddlehead - Yes I do have a GPS and I'm planning on taking it too, but I'd like to try and keep it as a backup and primarily use the map and compass. I do,...
Don H - I just hiked the AT this year, I did have a compass but more because it was a gift from my brother than any other reason. The only time I used it was when I went 50 yards off the trail to...
