+1 on Affirm. Great writing style, a lot more discussion of trail life and perspective. A good read.
Also a big thumbs of to "Reset". One of the most positive reads out there.
All I see is 'reply', 'reply with quote' and 'multiquote'

ah, the Vega - the car made out of compressed rust.
GreatDane - it was t-shirt weather this morning in Maine - almost 5 degrees.
I'm hoping to thru this year, but realistically, its a 50-50 shot. If all goes well, I'll leave early April.
The Dirty Lew!

Others have answered with the cheapest, but if I decide to thru-hike this year, I'm taking Concord Trailways bus from Portland to Boston South Station, then Amtrak from Boston to Gainesville. ...
My favorite five trail journals of 2013. (in no particular order)
- Morris the Cat
- Boo Boo
- Commomdo of Florida Flip Floppers
- Number 2 and Trooper

Use the search function on here and also view the articles. I can't think of one issue or one piece of gear that hasn't been discussed ad nauseum on here.
Just noticed that the infamous Gator Gump has published a book on Amazon. I don't know if its a mere repeat of his hilarious trail journal, or a re-write. Can't wait to read it.

Maybe I'll see you on the trail. I can't leave until mid-May either and have pretty much bought into the flip flop as the best option. Good luck!
good news. finally found a journal of 'Faceless' who did this flip in 2002. http://www.sophiaknows.com/summerhike/index.html
I'd love to thru hike this year, but likely can't leave until May. Thus, I'm thinking about starting at Harpers Ferry, heading north to Maine, then taking a train back to Harpers Ferry and heading...
Why did the orange get fired from the juice factory? It couldn't concentrate.

Just do it. Plenty of time. Head to Georgia and go! I'm not a thru-hiker, but from what I read, preparation isn't really necessary, just the ability to go with the flow.
Guess I lucked out. Got a Pinnacle pack for $60. It's on its way!
