Thanks, Delta! Glad to see folks with the attitude of 'what goes around comes around'. That's the beauty of trail magic. :)

Hey Max - I've run the Kennesaw loops countless times. There is just something about being on the AT... more challenging terrain, away from the city, don't have to worry about my dog being on a...
All,
I live in downtown Atlanta, and will constantly be going up to Springer over the next 3-4 months for hiking/trail running. Sometimes during the week, sometimes on the weekend. I've been...
Yeah - hitching in the Smokies is easy. I've gotten rides several times, and I've picked up several folks now and then. Good friendly people IMO.
But yeah, if the weather is bad and the road is...
Thanks for the info, shoe!
In case you were wondering, water at Stecoah Gap is hard to find, but this is how you get there... if you're going N, you'll walk down the stairs towards the road. But instead of going across the...
LoL - and you were a day of me... hiked from NOC to Fontana over the weekend... stayed on Cheoah Bald the 16th. What luck.
Hey folks,
Curious on water supply in GA - I was in NC this weekend and water was relatively scarce. Just curious on how it is in GA.
Thanks!
Capt, I was there yesterday. This spring isn't flowing unfortunately. There is a spring at Stecoah Gap by the road that is trickling, and apparently the shelter just S of Cheoah Bald has water, but...
I went up there over the past weekend. The shelter seemed to be in good shape, but close-by, there was an awful lot of garbage. No wonder why bears are so bad up here:

Awesome... I hope he does well. Is there any chance y'all have a twitter account where you'll be posting updates? :-/
I was fortunate enough to crew Karl for about 10 days from Duncannon, PA down to Daleville, VA.
Plan on just eating, sleeping, and hiking. To break the record, it would require a lot of...

Sound like there's a fellow in the area running around with a gun. Be careful out there!
Because I am delaying my thru-hike, I'd like to follow some folks on the trail... is there a list of folks who are tweeting from the trail that I can follow?
Much appreciated!

bluegrass!
Ran the marathon version in 2006... it's a fun race. The RD is a little goofy, but puts on a fine event. Starting such an event at 6:00pm at night is off the wall, but actually very enjoyable.

I thought the challenge was naming the state birds, I must have read over the part where I had to see each bird on the AT in their home state! Yikes!! Sounds like a difficult challenge! :)
Hermit Thrush is tough(er) to spot simply because they blend in so well and from what I remember they hang around the ground. However, their songs are very distinct.
The Oriole is a tougher find,...
Georgia - Brown Thrasher
North Carolina - Northern Cardinal
Tennessee - Northern Mockingbird
Virginia - Northern Cardinal
West Virginia - Northern Cardinal
Maryland - Baltimore Oriole...
Never littered... if anything, I'll pack out trash.
I generally don't cover up my poop... I'll admit that.
From the sounds of it, my sister was on the "notify me when back in stock" list, and snagged one when there were more available. It looks like they are out of stock again, though!
That was a good story...everyone falls from time to time. The fact that your fall was that bad was pure bad luck. Hope you get back out there once you recover.
On my long runs, depending on the...
