Anyone know of a good hotel or B&B located close to the James River foot bridge? Within 10 to 15 miles or so. It will be a 15 hour drive for me to get to this area, and I need a place for 5...
I usually take my small group for a section hike with fairly low mileage days. We go 9 days 8 nights on the trail and a days travel each way to and from... Roan Mt sounds like a good place to go. ...
Planning a section hike for 2012 and would like advice on where to go and what time of year to see the rhododendrons and azalea in bloom.
Would like to stay on the southern half of the trail......

I will be doing a short section next week from Winding Stair Gap north to Fontana Dam. Any WB'ers know how the springs/water sources are there?? It's pretty dry in my neck of the woods.....

Some locations had no water, but there was enough available to enjoy the
hike with no problems. No water at Trimpi shelter, spring at the site of
the old Raccoon Branch shelter was...
My annual section hike is coming up Sept 20. Five of us will be
hiking from Damascus north 60+ miles. A few years ago we had
trouble finding water in this area. Anyone been through that
section...

That is the Waterville exit, not a good place to leave a car. Just up the
road after you exit off of I 40 is Mountain mammas and just a bit further is Big Creek ranger station where most folks...
Wal-Mart has a "flat roll" of duck-tape. Not much on it, not bulky. works great !! No need to unroll, rewrap and burn brain cells trying to find the
best place to put it..... Ya gotta look for it...

The Smokys is a great introduction to hiking the AT, but it can be a bit difficult for beginners. The area from Clingmans Dome to Newfound Gap
would be a good overninght...

England states. But I would think that a near-by outfitter would rent you
some basic equipment to make a 3-4 day trip...
