Scariest part for me is when I'm camped near a road, and someone shines their car headlights at my tent in the middle of the night... possibly for an extended period of time.
... definitely creepy,...
Nice! It's good to see the record held by a backpacker again!
The BT Maps from ncbartramtrail.org are definitly the ones to use for the hike. If you're into google earth... I've got a GPS track for the trail here and a google maps version here (which loads...
I have to wonder is the above post is from the actual caretaker or some imposter?
Anyhow, being a ranger, hanging out with hikers and eating pizza doesn't sound so bad to me. I would definitely...
Just a quick note:

I agree completely, there should be a sign
I'd say just go with the best deals for now. With the money you save you'll have more cash to spend at restaurants and outfitters along the trail.
I don't have a printable version yet... but I'll definitely create one within the next few weeks. Basically, my plan is to improve the profiles some more, by correcting the mileages and adding better...

The GPS track is available for download on my website: parkaymaps ... near the top of the page....
Well, this hiking group might not be the right fit for your friend... however, from Warren Doyes Perspective is seems that a "tough" test hike like this would be absolutely necessary.
From what I...
I just clicked on the file... and it seems to be working normally as far as I can tell.
Hey everyone,
I've just re-done the printable elevation profiles for the Alabama and Georgia Pinhoti... the data is the same, but I've improved the layout... plus the resolution has been...
the profiles are just a hobby... created after a bunch of trial & error. I barely understand half of what I'm talking about... so the post about how I created the profiles probably didn't make any...
Just a quick note:
I've recently created some more profiles for the AT... they are basically just smaller state-size profiles... probably more convenient for online viewing than the Huge...
Hey Bleach,
Here's an idea:
First, install the freeware program CutePDF. Basically, cutePDF creates a fake printer driver, which captures data sent to the printer and turns it into a PDF...
Yeah... the battery situation is definitely a problem when recording these long GPS tracks. My gps unit is particularly inefficient, so it burns though about 4 AA batteries a day! However, Halfmile,...
nice:D
With all of this data I thought it might be interesting to plot the AT, PCT and CDT all on the same axis. The results are pretty cool. Here's the link: Triple Crown Combined Profile
