Outdoor 76 hands down. Go see Rob
Never used one with mine. No holes. I take a little time to make sure nothing sharp is on the ground before I setup the tent.
-5F. Hardly any wind, so that was good. No fire, just got in the bag when it got too cold. Warm and toasty all night.
All the new flagship phones like iPhone 11, Galaxy, Pixel, etc take very good videos and photos. Past that, a GoPro is great for video and can take pretty good photos as well, but isn't nearly as...
I absolutely love my WM Versalite and would not hesitate to buy another. I have heard the FF bags are great as well though.
Two years ago I had an overnight at -5*F using a 10* WM bag and a 40* ZPacks quit over the top. NeoAir XTherm and a CCF pad underneath. I was toasty warm all night. I liked the quilt on top for the...
It sure looks like an advertisement...
Canister requirement is not currently in effect. There is a reliable water source there, but may be low, but I have heard that with all the recent rain many of the sources are flowing well now.
I also have one and it’s for winter use. Nice pack, well made, carries well.
I would not recommend parking at Winding Stair Gap, as there have been recent reports of vandalism. Deep Gap is fairly safe - I have not heard of any issues there recently. Standing Indian Campground...
First off, yes, it is very doable in 12 days. I would say 8 is pretty common, 10 without any overly long days.
One note: don't let "spring" fool you! March and April on the AT in GA can be very...
The store I visit most often had a long period of being out of stock if the small JetBoil cansiters, but they finally got them in and they have remained in stock every time I have been back since.
Anker makes excellent products. AUKEY and RAVPower are two other good brands.
The best price I've seen is $3.99 at Academy Sports. Everywhere else $5-$6.
It is updated yearly with as many changes as they know about, but generally you can easily get by with last years version.
I believe the new edition is released in Dec or Jan for NOBO and a month...
I personally wouldn't park my car at Woody for 2 weeks. A few days, sure, but for that long I would recommend a safer spot.
My first suggestion would be to try shuttle drivers. I know there are...
8-10 MPD in that section is very reasonable. I have seen many out of shape hikers doing 8 MPD in that area.
Not a bad section. Plenty of water, trail is fairly easy. Make sure you take the side trail to Long Creek Falls.
You may want to consider coming back on the BMT from Springer. It makes a figure 8...
There are about 4 "spots" off the road to pull a vehicle in at Three Forks, and a lot of side of the road parking. People do leave cars at Three Forks all the time without issue, but you never know....
I’ve had the same thought before. I don’t worry about water, electricity, or heat as I have everything I need in my hiking gear to be just fine.
As for living in a hurricane prone area, why...
The Petzl eLite+ is another option.
Mine normally stay arc’ed during the trip, and I release it before I load the pack into my truck.
The tread wears out extremely fast for me compared to a road tread.
Also, the Olympus is a trail shoe, not road.
The AWOL Guide is more useful for resupply for me. It has maps of trail towns showing where everything is that a hiker would want (grocery stores, AYCE, post office, etc) in a nice format.
I have been looking into the same thing. The closest I have found is the Torin 4: https://www.altrarunning.com/shop/shoes/men-39%3Bs-torin-4-alm1937f?variationId=061#hero=0
I have not tried it on...
