The HH lashing is pretty simple and does work - but that's where the niceness ends IMO. Adjustment is a pain - you have to tie/untie both ends several times every hang, unless you're just a whiz at...

Happy Easter everybody!
As most of you know, Patrick McKenna has had to suspend sales of his Potomac Underquilt due to increased time demands at his "real" job.
Instead of letting this great...
I talked to a guy - T-back from Florida, I believe - who made an old Jansport frame into an external version of a gearskin. Looked pretty good, too!
I keep going back and forth on my old...

You're hiking for yourself and your own reasons, so why worry about other people and what they think or say? You've got enough challenges to worry about just getting to Katadhin -...
I've had that happen a couple of times. When you get shoes for your thru, just make sure that you have plenty of room in the toes. This isn't a concern off the trail, but when you do a lot of...
I've never hiked MM SP itself, but I hike in Uwharrie NF all the time. It's a great area and I'm sure you'll have a blast. I'd love to join you, but I'm planning on doing the New Year's on Springer...
I've had asthma since birth and I've been hiking since I was about 7. I've never thru'd, but I have tenative plans to do so within the next 6 or 7 years.
Conditioning is the best advice I can...
What are you people DOING to your poles??? I've had a pair for going on two years now, and never had any problems with them. I broke the basket on one, but that was after a lot of miles of use and...
Or just make one skin 5'5" (Speer sil width) and make the other skin in two pieces. :D
Or get 2 yards, make the Pythons 6', make one tarp skin 6', and make the other tarp skin in two pieces.:D

You can get it easily out of 2 yards. I made the Pythons for a friend; he shipped me 2 yards so I could make each of his skins 6' long. He let me keep the scrap, which will be plenty to make skins...
If you can sew, make your own skins. I just made a pair of Pythons - only took 2 hours, and that would've been shorter if I wasn't anal retentive about pre-pinning hems. You can get black silnylon...
I use my #2 HH skins with my 9' "Neo" tarp. The stock skins are plenty thick, but not long enough. I added a 32" extension to the large end of one skin, which gives me 8-10" of overlap.
I wrote this up for the Yahoo Hammockcamping group a while ago.

I think it'd feel like a pile of lemmings...
Yeah. Probably better not to ask :D
Try cutting or ripping the stuff. It's amazingly tough. I've been using Tyvek ground cloths for a while ('till I started hanging, that is) and I've had great results.
I suppose we shouldn't infer anything from the presence of KY liquid in your bathroom? :D
I carry a tube of that stuff with me when I hike. As far as using it on anything that needs to last a long time or take a lot of stress, NO. But, it's great for spot repairs on low-stress areas,...
Oh - You might also want to see if you can find some silnylon scraps somewhere to practice with first, especially if your first project will be sil. There's a bit of a curve associated with the...
Jeff's All-In-One would be a great first project. Everything's nice and square and short. Stuff sacks are also nice starters, but stick with square-bottom types - sewing a small circular seam is a...
Just Jeff says his homemade Speer is more comfy than his HH. I just made a Speer type a few weeks ago, and they're on about the same comfort level as far as I'm concerned.
They each have their...
Yeah so...I'm not single and I'm not gonna thru for another few years at least, but I'm in the loser club! :D I don't sleep....
I think I found the same stuff. I bought a bolt, got it home, and used a corner as a water bag - NOT waterPROOF but definitely very repellent. I asked around like you're doing now, and someone said...
