Congrats. An accomplishment you will cherish and remember for the rest of your life.
Congratulations on your finish.
I use a 3/4 length foam pad in my Hennessy. Quite comfy down to about 40F. I have been out in it in lower temps with snow and it was a bit chilly but doable. I have never looked back after getting...
You doing the whole trail or part of it? I did two nights last year with my son. Would like to get back for a few more nights this year. Do you have an itinerary planned out or just hiking?
Did a quick overnight Benson to Piseco a few weeks ago with my son. Lots to explore and kick back and enjoy the ponds along the way. The trail was in good shape. Enjoy your trip.

I sectioned the trail. I started out in shelters and tenting. About half way thru I learned and became interested in the HH. Since I got into the HH, I have never been without it. I will say that...
I have always placed into a trash bag and laid on ground under hammock. Works for bad weather and critters. Have never had any problems. I also setup a separate ridgeline for the tarp. This...
Late June early July could be black fly time. Aug is probably a better time frame. I went thru July 4th week. Head net was a real plus during that week.
I always enjoy a campfire wheather I'm alone or with friends. Sitting and talking around the fire until the last of the gathered wood is burned down.
Gazing up at a star filled sky out of my...
Well put all. Happy Easter to all.
I come in at around 15-16 lbs before food, water, and fuel. Using a HH for shelter. HH gets a bit cold below 30 deg. If temps drop into the 20s, I modify my plans to duck into a shelter.
Used the Cats Meow for about the last 4 years. Served me well. A lot of choices out there, but you can't go wrong with the Cats Meow.
I seperate my food and trash and hang it away from my hammock. I place my pack and gear into a trash bag and lay it on the ground under the hammock. Never had a problem with any wet gear or critter...
Been logging in about 400-500 miles per year over the last six years. I plan on continuing with my current trend. I have about 15 nights planned for hanging between the trees. Work seems to get in...
An unbelievable amount of work. Very cool. Real interesting the way you broke every section apart.
Thanks for the research.
Is there any updates to the water situation since the 8/30 post by briarpatch?
Doing a southbound Dicks Creek Gap to Springer next week.
Any info would be most helpful. Thanks.
Hey Repeat,
When we met a few years ago, Ron and I parked at the Rendezvous and Brenda shuttled us as well. Short walk from the trail, very helpfull and reliable.
I have not winter camped in my hammock yet, although my snowshoes are in the mail and I plan on full winter camping. Until now, I have been in my hammock down to around 20 deg. I have to say I was...
My last move to lighten up went from a 5 lb 10 oz external frame to a Kelty Haiku at 3 lb 13 oz. It is a very comfortable pack at 30 lbs. Plenty of room at 4250 cu in. I believe the newer models are...
