Thanks! Im not setting any certain date or amount of time it will take, Im just trying to get a reference. What I'll do is set a destination and find out how long it takes to get there. :)
What do you think about the new backpack, tent, sleeping bag combo i've got going on now? I'm learning as I go. Remember, this is for a GA Section in Late May / Early June
Another Athenian? What part of Athens?
Looks like I'll be going from Springer Mtn, GA to Franklin, NC. I guess I'll bank on 7 days just to be safe. I read its about 3 days to get to the first town (Neel's Gap) from Springer. How correct...
Thanks, guys. Is it a safe bet to carry 4 days worth of food to make it to Neels Gap?
Just out of curiosity, have any thru hikers experienced too much Trail Magic where it made them feel less like they were hiking in the wilderness and more so through a touristy nat. park?
It's a good philosophy. It can be difficult to really enjoy the wilderness when you've got a societal deadline to meet.
Johnny, are you thru-ing it or are you just sectioning it? Thanks for your info. And thank you, fatman as well. It's a good reference. :)
I'll be taking this under coming up in May / June time frame. How long did it take you to do the GA section? All 76 miles.. and were there ample shelters along the trail? I'm trying to get my time...
Thanks for your help and your words. Im sure that I'll start buying ridiculous things.. you saw that i have a tent and a hammock on my list already, haha. See you out there.
Well what we have here is a failure to communicate.
mississippihiker, what's your trail name? I'll be doing the same section (76 mi) in June and will keep an eye out at the shelters for your name in the log.
There are bins every two or three miles and when they get full, the bears have been hired and trained to take them out and replace the bags.
:banana
I'm not sure, im just a jackass. :/
Wow, i can't even imagine what kind of patience that would take... military?
Gray, cry me a river, build me a bridge, and get over it! hah, i'm only kidding. But you should feel fortunate. I have until 2015 to do the hike. Current job ends in 2014 but not until August.
...
This is all pretty good info. I'm asking because I want to go when my contract is up in 2015 and I know I'll be very anxious until then. But, until that time arrives I am definitely doing some...
Thanks a lot, bud.
And where did this Jim business come from? hahah. Just curious. I've been here two days and already have a "trail"name.
While 2013 is still 2 year outs, my hike isn't planned for three years AFTER you guys finish the trail. I'm obligated to a job with no more than 30 days off each year.. so, you can figure my...
Thanks for your gratitude. And I hope you're having a blast on the AT.
Oh yeah, i definitely realize that. I am just trying to get a basic needs list taken care of. I saw tents from BPS that are about 1/3 of what I want from REI.
That pack was suggested earlier... it must be decent.
The big four being The pack, the tent, the bag, and what else? Rations?
hahah, thanks a lot.
^ whoops. & WHOOPS on the Buford thing. I've never been there. hahah, I don't even know what I'm thinking about. I'm sure it's lovely there. haahaha
Chop, I wish you luck in your endeavor, my man. Have a blast. I just have to clear up the time.
myother, I would definitely prefer to do a thru-hike. Have people done sections here and there just...
