Well I’m finally going to hike the Whites this Summer, and I was wondering if there were any hostels near Pinkham Notch, or if Joe Dodge Lodge is the best place to stay. Suggestions welcome. Thanks.

After fifteen years of section hiking on the AT, tomorrow I start the final 800 mile section from Bear Mountain in New York to Mt Katahdin in Maine. Hoping.to finish in about two months. Really...
What did it sound like?
Hi Whiteblazers,
I am thinking about getting a Packa for rain protection, but am wondering if anyone else on Whiteblaze has any experience with this rain gear that they can share. The combination...
When I hiked that section, I also parked at the Wellness Center. When I finished my hike, I asked if I could purchase a day pass just to use the shower. They let me shower for free. It’s always...
Just finished a four day volunteer hitch with the Mid-Atlantic Trail Crew, working on a trail reroute near Palmerton, PA. It was the last week for the crew for 2021. Exhausting work, but so worth...
Congratulations! I am about fifteen years and 1599 miles into my section hiking, so I thank you for the inspiration! I hope to finish myself someday soon.
Other than Sunfish Pond, I didn’t think the rocks in NJ were bothersome at all. And Sunfiish Pond was beautiful enough to offset the pain of the rocks.
Best part of PA is definitely Penmar to...
Congrats, Gambit!
I agree with this. I plan to continue to support the ATC, and support their efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID.
I stayed there 7 or 8 years ago on a section hike. Thought it was a great place and well run. The two biggest drawbacks were the strange neighbor and the distance from the AT. For me, the walk was...
No, the ATC should not stop handing out 2000 mile certificates.
I support the ATC on this.
I’m a combination of a) and e). I am not going to do my customary 100+ mile section of the AT in May due to risk of COVID. I am also most likely not going to be able to be vaccinated until Summer,...
I am the same age as you, Map Man, and am also likely to be one of the last to be vaccinated. I am planning to backpack for a week in May 2021 on the Buckeye Trail (no shuttle or resupply needed...
I think the potential for contracting / spreading coronavirus is greatest during the journey to the trail and during town stops for resupply. This is what the ATC emphasized in their communications....
There are some rocky sections, especially around Sunfish Pond, but the relentless rocks will soon end.
New Jersey is a beautiful state. Hope you have a great hike.
You would also want to account for other factors, like whether the surface was smooth or rocky, and maybe also whether there was a slope across the trail.
So sorry to hear this. I never met RainMan, but always enjoyed reading his posts. His successful completion of the AT via sections over 14 years is a real encouragement to me.
I see what you mean about the reservations page. Some dates do show ‘full’.
But if you go to the ‘White Mountain Huts of New Hampshire’ page under ‘Lodging and Camping’, the first sentence says...
SNP is closed for all camping.

Well said.
I hiked a hundred miles of the AT last year right before Memorial Day, and ended at Bear Mountain. I did see some thrus, but they were almost all flip-flowers who had started at Harpers Ferry. A...
Not sure about points 1 and 2, but I hiked that exact section SB last May, and did stop for a meal at a number of places, and found them all good.
Mohican Outdoor Center (mile 1306)
Culver’s Gap...
