The double offset blazes are called garveys, named after the trail pioneer Ed Garvey, who invented them. A better way to blaze direction of trail, to be sure.
The reason for infrequent blazing in...
Wonder what his trailname was?
Mathewski and goat boy were always fun reads.
Terrible news! RIP Weary. You were one of a kind and a true friend of the trail and Maine.
Sport Kilt makes a great hiking kilt. They can get a little heavy in a pouring rain, but they dry pretty fast. And on those hot, hot summer days, you'll still need body glide.
The other option that folk seem to keep forgetting is when they get to KSC, take the shuttle into Millinocket. Simply take the shuttle back on the day you want to climb, then take it back to...
Abol trail should be open by then, but won't help you with the knife edge. Stay at KS and get an early ride to roaring brook with a daypack, on a good weather day. Go up helon Taylor and across the...
Also, don't forget the Perch leanto if you want to get a few more miles in on day one than Madison. Then maybe Nauman/Mitzpah on night 2.

The Kiosk is about a 5-10 minute stroll from Abol Bridge.
There is also Abol Pines campground which is across the road from the Abol Bridge store. Much cheaper, but no ammenities.
Black flies for Mothers Day, mosquitos for Fathers Day.
The perch, grey knob, and camp crag are still there on the north side of mt Adams and cost anywhere from eight bucks a night and up.
I haven't seen anything from Tipi lately.
Nice! Thanks.
Good morning,
Anyone ever try sleeping in a Hennessey with a Big Agnes bag with the sleeve on the back for a pad? Wondering if I partially inflate the pad if it will keep me warm. Don't have any...
I don't know if you can shower at Abol Bridge then go across the street. They have pay showers (fifty cents for 6 minutes). Abol bridge is $17 something and Abol Pines is $8 something per night...
Yes, stay at Abol Pines across the road from Abol Bridge. Half the price. I don't know what they have for services, though.
Very nice, love the Baldface area.
You never can tell, but typically, Mothers Day brings the black flies and Fathers Day brings the skeeters. Mud should be dried up by early June, for the most part, but then again, you never can tell.
"the barefoot sisters" and "and then the hail came".
They are all pretty good, though.
Buzzy, you still have power? We got out of it pretty easy.
Nice area, been here a long time. Unfortunately, the Whites are 2 hours away.
Wow! Been here since 2003, only 565 posts, never changed my name. Am I really that boring?
