I read once in someone's TrailJournal that they used a product called "BodyGlide"....haven't tried it myself, but from what user said, it worked great for them.

LOL that's exactly the hike I just did LAST weekend. Put some pictures up on the site from it...it is a nice stroll, but again...too close to home; I want to start venturing a little further out.
I have no plans this weekend, so I plan on doing an overnight hike somewhere along the trail not too far from my home. Since I will be by myself, I'll have to park my car, hike out, then hike back...
There's always Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods"...easy to read, and quite humorous. Reading that book is what first got me interesting in hiking the trail myself.
Does anyone have experience with this program? I'm trying to make a "movie" out of my photos from a recent hike accross PA, using music, transitional effects, etc. to show to some of my friends who...
You thru-hiked in only 3 1/2 months? Wow.
Unless your school's schedule is set up differently than mine. We get out around the second week of May, and go back the last week of August.
I bought the Hubba a few months ago and I love it. VERY breathable, since the top 3/4 is nothing but a fine mesh.
It's freestanding if you don't use the fly...and sets up very easily with only...
OK, I have to post to this too, to hopefully get more suggestions. I'm planning on hiking from Duncannon myself on Sunday morning, when most of the businesses will be closed. Are there any public...
No way...the odor is all a part of the hike!:D Plus, deodorant attracts insects like crazy. If you think gnats in PA are bad normally, try hiking with tons of smelly stuff all over you.
There is also a Wal-Mart off the Mechanicsburg Exit, on the Carlisle Pike...this is the same road the WildWare is located (which, I might add, is an EXCELLENT store for backpackers -- this is where I...
Well that depends how early you get out. My college ends its spring semester after the second week in May. That would give you only 3 1/2 months untill school starts up again at the end of August. ...
What exactly is an outdoor educator? just curious...
BTW, what college do you go to? I don't live too far from York...I probably know of it. I'm a Shippensburg student myself :D
Yea, I get a 6-month grace period after I graduate in December...which should put me near the half-way point when I start having to pay the loans back lol. I guess I can just set up some kind of...
Just wondering if there are any other future thru-hikers that are currently in college or just graduated. I'll be graduating in December of this year, and then plan on hiking beginning in March of...
Made up my mind. Went with the MSR Hubba. Found it on ebay for only $170 :D Thanks for the help, though.
This tent is supposedly an improved version of the Zeus Exo tent. Any users of it that have any comments as to the quality?
The Hubba tent is a bit out of my price range, but i do need something that is gonna be waterproof.
I have a synthetic sleeping bag...I'm about 5'11 and 160 lbs. (not big at all)
Are there...
OK, I guess to be more specific, I would def. like one with some form of a vestibule (sp?), and also a rain cover. Freestanding would also be a nice feature, but I think they can get a little on the...
I need to buy a new one-person tent to use on the trail...any suggestions? I'm not interested in tarps, bivy's, or hammocks...just a tent. I'm hoping on not spending TOO much...
Has anyone read the A.T. Thru-Hike Planner: http://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/iteminfo.cfm?itemid=80&compid=1
It sounds like a great tool for a pretty cheap price. Or maybe The Appalachian...
Well I'm planning on leaving in early March and hiking northbound. How would that make a difference in what gear I need to bring?
I know plenty about hiking...and have completed several overnight trips by myself along the trail. I know the basics of cooking and all that, plus I have maybe 75% of the gear I'll need for a...
Do any of you past or future thru-hikers have any recommendations for thru-hiking guides? There are plenty on the market; I was just wondering which ones are worth buying.
I'm not looking for a...

I was checking out the Trailjournals.com, looking at different people's "gear pages", which show a list of every piece of gear the person brings, along with price, weight, and usually a picture.
