I'm a speed hiker thinking about trying to hike/bike the trail in a month or less. Any idea about starting east around Dec 12? How many miles of the trail are considered "bikeable"?

I'm pretty bummed out about this. Maybe choosing 2015 was a bad idea.
So what does this mean for 2015 thrus? Will I even see snow this year at all.
So it's looking like another dry year?
I guess my concern is I have 100 days to thru starting May 10. So I could be trying to enter the Sierra "early" by some standards.
But aren't there, like, "predictions" that are somewhat of a scientific sense? Or some amount of snowfall already? Or someone's internal barometric clock spitting out future snow measurements? Or a...
:banana I know it's way too early to know but what are we thinking it will be for 2015?
In some ways you're better off than me. I wish I had four months, I've only got 100 days from May 5. You can do it in that timeframe. Would have to up the miles and lower the town time. A benefit of...
I tried the 10's on today. I only have experience with the 6's and 8's. I found the 6's to run noticeably smaller than the 8's. The 10's however fit snugger than the 8's. Other than that, the...
Back in my day it was the cascadia 6
Looking for any of these.
It's a PCT question. I have no experience with the bag, but if it was warm enough, couldn't I just pull it down (say, be halfway in the bag) on the warm nights as a way to vent? I know it doesn't...
By jacket I mean a Montbell ex light down anorak, not a feathered friends.
I've been looking at UL bags and came across the feathered friends Vireo UL, its lower half is rated at 20 degrees, upper half at 45, but I would be pairing with a hooded down jacket. The weight...
This is all inspiring. My summer window is from about April 25 to August 15, but I'm still waiting to figure out my exam schedule. I also only took four zero days on my AT thru, so laying around in...
I know the saying "The trail will always be there" but let's be honest, youthful desire and a healthy body might not. I thru hiked the AT in 2012 when I graduated undergrad. It felt like it was the...
Made it the whole way with a dri ducks ultralite jacket. Cheap and light. People will tell you they aren't durable but as long as you don't take off through a thicket wearing it it's fine.
I used a sea to summit. My base weight was about 9 lbs. Never had a problem. I used a cuben fiber for my sleeping bag sack.
We actually met in a Wilderness First Responder course, and have only spent a few days hiking on the AT, so we don't have much hiking time logged together. I think that's a good point brought up that...
I thru hiked the AT in 2012 and want to do another thru hike in 2014. Conveniently I have a good friend who wants me to join her on her CDT (triple-crown completing) thru hike. I've actually been...
It's Tallest Man on Earth - Burden of Tomorrow. One of the songs I listened to a lot during my hike, so it reminds me of the AT.

Just made this yesterday on the one-year anniversary of the completion of my thru so I thought I would share it. Some of you 2012'ers might see yourself...
Planning is half the fun
As a 2012 nobo I can say that PA DID have more graffiti than any other state. A friend I was hiking with from PA who was also thru hiking was very ashamed that his home state was so painted. A lot...
Right there with you deciding on gear for the PCT this year. Also from NC... Asheboro area.
From what I've heard bug protection not really needed in SoCal
I think long sleeve shirts for...
