Good 5-6 day section of CT?

This is just a preliminary question, so no need for readers to worry overmuch about the best answer.

I'm toying with the idea of persuading my partners to section hike a s bit of the CT next...

I have a GSI dualist, reasonably cheap and reasonably light. The two bowls and two cups are overkill for a party of three but they make the self contained system work for a party of 3 or 4. I like it...

    Here's something else to consider.

Like many others, I use an inflatable air pad (Exped Synmat UL) for sleeping and I'm nervous about punctures. So I only inflate and use it in my tent. I always...

I think it's the "Ark" or the "Flood"? Way too much volume in my opinion: room enough for two of every species but no room for first cousins. But better than the "Onan" which spilled everything on...

    First Aid instructions?

Somewhere online I found a very condensed one-page cheat sheet giving instructions about what to do in case of various common backcountry medical emergencies. It was written by someone with obvious...

    Good work.

People might nitpick over a few minor things but I'm impressed you dropped the weight of your big 3 (shelter, pack, and sleep system) to 1.8 kg. The Scandinavians consider < 3 kg quite respectable....

    SMD Swift question

I got a really good deal on a Swift pack, pocket waistband, and U-frame as SMD was closing them in anticipation of their new line of packs. So far, I'm very happy with the pack - it's light,...

    As many have mentioned:

    1. Down bag/quilt rather than synthetic. This eliminates a huge amount of volume.
    2. Downsize pot, eliminate cup/bowl/spoon if possible.
    3. Rethink what you really need....

Thanks, Franco! A very good read: informal, yet clear and filled with enough empirical data to make it convincing and comprehensible, at least to this non-physics major. The surprising facts for me...

    Is condensation a big deal?

Last fall, while on an overnight hike in the Rockies, I camped in a valley bottom next to a creek - partly due to nightfall, failing to locate an above treeline campsite, and partly my own stupidity....

Best pack to carry bear canister?

    Hi all,

Could use a bit of help with a purchase decision.

Some background: To date, most of my hiking has been in Canada, but friends want to plan a trip to California next summer; specific...
  16. three (minor?) questions for the more experienced UL hiker

    Hey all,

After 30+ years of climbing, my interests are shifting to long distance UL hiking.

Last year, I bought a Tarptent Moment, Exped Synmat UL, and an MSR Titan pot and I find them all more...
