I have hiked barefoot, sandals, sneakers, boots... Remember that sand can be very abrasive when stuck between sock and skin.
I currently wear trail runners, with short gaiters to keep the sand...
I did hike barefoot through parts of FL. The sugar sand is soft and sweet. Remember that the dry grass can hide prickers.

I will be hiking through the Big Cypress early Jan 2010. Looking for someone willing to pick me and my hiking companions up at I-75 and drop us of at the southern terminus on...
As of December 2009 the Big Cypress was about ankle to mid-calf deep. The Tosohatchee area is usually ankle deep, I was just up in Apalachicola/Bradwell Bay area and it was waist deep.
It would be great to finally be able to hook up with you all this time. We'll see.
