Might want to thicken up your skin a bit if you wanna enjoy this forum. That'll help you on the trail too... LOL
I've got bad ankles as well and here's the thing that worked for me. I use Montrail trail runners with lace up ankle braces. The ankle braces will protect you much better than a high top boot. ...
They are available in the USA now. I have seen them at certain online running stores. They are a very light weight shoe - big base for stability - and very well cushioned. I just wonder if the...
Has anyone heard about these new trail running shoes? Karl Meltzer just did an 1800+ mile trail run in these shoes... They look crazy but apparently are great for stability and cushioning... Anybody...
Hey, I saw this family in Maine a couple of weeks ago. That is so awesome they were able to summit together. Has there ever been such a large family thru-hiking together ?
Forest Service Road closed till March 15 or so. I used Ron Haven to shuttle up to the Bald last summer. Great guy !! But if you left a car there, I'd think it would be completely safe.
if $ allows for only one down bag, I think you have to go with the 20 degree bag. The 30 leaves a huge gap to be filled in Fall and Winter camping...
looking for info on how to arrange a shuttle from Amicalola to the Forest Service Road drop off point. We only have time for a one week section and don't want to hike the Approach Trail. Thanks for...

Try Kite Tyvek. It's much softer and easier to work with. Here is where I buy it...

Ive done this with powdered eggs. Boiling time is only 4-5 minutes. 13-15 just sounds way too long... Happy trails
Standing Bear Hostel is just one mile in from I40. Curtis will let you park your car there - no problem. It's a much better solution than parking at the gap.
atmos packs are awesome, but i think you need the 50 instead of the 65. 65 is just too big for what you need on the AT. You can get the 50 on ebay for around 120 bucks. fantastic pack
Here's another one to consider. I took this out in the rain in Tennessee a few weeks ago and it performed very well. Weighs in just under 2 pounds and sets up so quickly.

i have used honeyville powdered eggs 4-5 times over last six months. They work great and taste really good. I usually put two eggs worth in a baggy, add salt and pepper and cheese powder (if...
walked that section the weekend of March 13-15. Plenty of water - springs flowing great. Didn't even have to treat water
I wouldn't carry alot of extra water
this is the one to go with.. double walled, free standing and very light !!

I think it would be too difficult. Having had four kids, taking a 2 year old on a 5 mile hike would kill you !!
i have had bad ankles for years, but didn't want to wear boots. I use montrail hardrocks for my trail runner shoe and also wear lace up ankle supports. I think its a great combination. Probably...
just depends on your boss and your relationship to him. He will probably want to know why you are leaving so making it positive for him and you is probably the best way to go. No need to burn any...
I love this jacket. I wore it under a marmot driclime windshirt as I went over Max Patch last December. Temp read 11 degrees with 30-40 wind. Kept me warm with no problem. It's such a versatile...
Check them out... They are fantastic trail runner shoes and you can generally find them for a good price on the web. They run a little narrow so if you have wide feet, it may not be the best...
check on the down sweater. It's a perfect solution to wear under an outer layer. Its less than 7 oz. You can sleep in it to extend the range of your sleeping bag.
For insurance, I don't know...
Tried this trick last weekend and it helped immensely. Bring several kitchen sized trash bags with you and fill them up with leaves. Put them in the tent with you to help extend the insulation of...
