Do you use hard insoles such as Superfeet or Power Step?
For me the arch on the insole helps control forward movement in the shoe.

I wore my vertice rain pants through the mosquito infested southern most two miles of Baxter State Park and had no issues with biting on my legs. I thought that was a good test.
Happy Hiking!...
This is exactly why I am no longer a hammocker. I tried hammocking for three years and always spent too much time finding trees to hang from. Too big in diameter, too small, too far apart, too...
I used a simple spending app on my iPhone called, “Spending”, and kept track of every single penny I spent on my last AT section.
The screen shot shows what I spent in seven weeks from Rutland...
It’s just too difficult to out-guess what the temps are going to do. I go as light as I can, compromising comfort on a lot of equipment, but one thing I absolutely won’t compromise is my 20 degree...
I understand the sentiment exactly. I carried my ZPacks EXO pack every inch of the AT. The Exo was the original Zpacks design and the predecessor to the Arc Blast. By the time I went up Katahdin,...
Had a similar bear experience in the Smokys back in 2014. I was walking along through a rhododendron tunnel when I heard a scuffling on my right on the other side of the bushes. Didn’t think much...
That first photo could win any contest!

I have similar experience with the Z pack liner.
I suspected some leakage when the content kept getting a lot of moisture inside, even a very small puddle in the bottom.

My fear is that masks will become standard dress, whether they are needed or not. Like it would be fashionably unacceptable to not wear one.

I was considering bidding $50 on a White Mountains sign in their auction, but I then saw the bids were up to $4300+ !
There are some folks there with a lot of money.

This.
I’ve carried summer sausage 5 days in summer heat with no problem. I did so knowing full well I was willing to throw it out if it went bad.
Don’t know how much longer it would have...
Understand fully that stuff sacks tend to leave unused room in the space between the “tangents of the diameters”.
It seems to me though that by using stuff sacks, those items in the sacks are...
I’ve had a couple of Packas and I don’t think I will use anything else. The great thing about a Packa is the ventilation, even when zipped up. On a very warm/humid day, it’s easy to vent.
I...
On my 4 year AT hike, I wore Moabs three of those four years, and I slipped and fell six times, and nearly fell many other times.
On my fourth year I wore Altra Lone Peaks from Vermont to...
So did the sign say who closed the shelter?

I used mail drops the whole way, although I did the AT in four six-seven week sections. I preferred mail drops so I could ensure the quality of my daily dehydrated suppers. I refuse to eat Knorr...

Once you get into October, you need to be mindful of the weather, as the Whites can be unpredictable.
It would be wise to put a link to the Mt. Washington weather station, and refer to it often. ...
I train with a ULA Circuit filled with a dictionary, a ten pound sledge hammer, a 4” concrete block, and several thick books.
That will get it up to 40+ pounds no problem. Then carry it up and...
