I use full synthetic socks I just get at target, never had a problem. Anything fast drying and airy foot wear when in warm weather, change socks in the middle of the day.
Is there an alternate route around GSMNP to avoid restrictions for not being able to hammock or have a dog?
A lot of people give their dogs puppy food since it's more calorie dense as well.
Same reason for me too.
But starting out, all the noises of animals scurrying around at night does take some getting used to, it's nice when it rains so you can't hear any of that stuff. Hang...
I have the same kind of problem, sort of. I would love to be able to hike with my dog, but she's a miniature doxie. By the time 3 miles rolls around she's done so I'd have to carry her almost all...
I'm a tea addict but haven't taken tea with me hiking because I don't want to carry mug besides my TI pot but using the pot would burn my lips. I saw snow peak has little silicone attachments for...
Haha, I saw that thread. I'm only stuck in Ohio for the next year then I should be back in NH.
Of course being shorter and lighter you can use smaller gear. Shorter sleeping bag, less food, smaller clothes, shorter sleeping pad, etc...
Pretty much take only what you NEED to have. Clothes,...
I've been rocking La Sportiva Wildcats in the summer, they dry super fast and a very breathable, in the winter i've been using La Sportiva Onyx GTX, I've put a lot of miles on both and they're still...
Guess i should re-phrase my "salty foods" phrase, non-sweets would be more accurate, not like candy bars and the like loaded with just simple carbs, i find ~600 cals every 2 hours works best for me...
Since I'm a Cheshire County native obviously I'm fond of Mt. Monadnock. The only section I've hiked of the trail was from Rhododendron up Little Monadnock over Gap and to the north parking lot for...
I still have a pair of salomons that have probably close to 300 trail miles and about 400 treadmill miles and still going strong, I pretty much use them just on the treadmill now since I switched...
Depends on what you carry. Using minimalist type gear during 3-season weather 35L would be on the edge. At that point it'll come to food choices. If you pack very dense food 4-5 days of food...
I really gotta figure some way to get a big hike planned just don't want to have to give up my job to do it. I could probably finesse 2 months without much problem since I already get 5 weeks...
Yeah, it's one of those vicious cycles. Gotta loose weight but can't exercise much cause knee is messed up, knee won't get better until weight's gone. Yay, to live in a time where food is readily...
I find one of my biggest problems with hiking in pretty much any warm-ish weather is staying hydrated. In warm weather I tend to sweat a lot and there seems to be more water coming out of me then I...
I figure there should be some sort of refined policy other than 'just leave it'. At least when speaking for the US, United States history is very well documented in the written record, and the last...
Obviously this is overall a personal thing and not knowing details or financial situations or religions, etc... BUT, being that you have a distant relationship as is, you're young, go hiking. ...
Definitely agree with this statement. I use a tall kitchen bag as a liner and it fits with room to space. My gear list is a little less than yours but i have tons of room to spare so with what...
Man, that's a tad extreme. Can't even use the tree to pitch a tarp. I can move rocks and leaves and sticks, etc... around on the ground so i can flatten a spot to sleep but hanging, causing no...
I use a Jack R Better Shenandoah quilt. Reg is 15oz and long is 17oz. Comfy down to the 40 degrees it's rated for, could probably stretch it colder with added clothes and what not. Always good to...
Yeah, it's 12.
Of course you have to take into account the size of the person too. I'm 6' and have a larger frame so right there I have to carry heavier stuff because I need XL clothes, long quilt, long hammock,...
I'm starting to really lean towards the rail riders. If they're good enough to run across deserts, shorts might be unnecessary except some nylon boxers that i wear anyways.
