I use a Cocoon ultralite inflatable pillow. Only a few ounces & packs small. Doesn't compress like a stuff sack with clothes in it, & I no longer have any kinks in my neck in the morning.

Awesome place for a day hike or overnighter. Was there in May a couple years back, so cannot comment on the colors there now.
It'll work fine. I used a homemade alco stove on my 2011 JMT thru-hike. Like others have said, it may take a bit longer to blossom, but don't worry. Have a good hike!
Good luck on your hike, Graywolf. Are you quoting yourself in your sig line?
I've been sectioning since '08, which was originally planned as a TH. Logistically & physically were my main reasons for going north. A SOBO hike is a tougher hike, & different altogether,,,not as...

The JMT is on my list in mid-August, but I'm hoping to get a week to 10 days on the AT before then. My NOBO hike has me 6 mi south of the MA border. Started from Amicalola in '08.
I agree, it's the bugs. The tiredness, perpetual hunger, soreness, even all that seems worth it when you've reached your goal, or even just a peak w/ a gr8 view! But the bugs, ughh...

Daja, I agree. I think UL isn't just about saving a few grams, but about having durable, reusable equipment. This saves time & money in the long run.
If you want a cheap, UL & reusable...
Thanks for the replies Engine & Rabbit! I've tried the original Vapor Trail, they're nice packs, and I currently use a Virga for all my long hikes & overnighters.
Rabbit, I haven't tried on the...

Nrvana, Cookerhiker started a thread on this trail. Check it out, good info.

Saturday, April 11th my girlfriend & I hiked up to Riga from the Rte 41 parking lot, Undermountain trail side. The privy has been redone, also new steps up to the shelter itself. We set up our tent...
Yes, Pokey, Blue Hills is the best place closest to me for hiking. I'm in Plymouth, MA and for a good day hike I'll go to Blue Hills Reservation. Last Saturday, my girlfriend, myself & Skippy Bones...
Hey Jack, thanks for posting this! I've been following this bill, as I was also pulling for the New England Trail, or what we know it around here as the Triple M or MMM Trail. This is good news! I'll...
Taba, good luck on your hike & getting others to hike it! I think it's great that you want to bring more attention to the MST.
Having said that, that's what this post should've been about only....
