Update: Hiker feed was a great success on Friday...fed around 30 hikers. Weather held up and was great to meet all the hikers heading north to Katahdin. Looking forward to doing this again next year!

I would say betty creek is more down in a gully with more trees, so it may fair better than carter gap, that is my 2 cents. Have a good hike.
Nope, I get all my protein from the foods I eat everyday. I used to carry protien bars, but I have found AMRAP bars that are really good for calories and protien.....

Yes Hwy 441 to Newfound Gap is closed from the Gatlinburg side due to snow/ice, and from Cherokee side due to landslide.
ULA circuit, with hand loops removed & hydration sleeve got me down to 36.8 oz...great pack!
I used to carry a map....ditch them and bought the loose leaf AWOL guide and take only the pages I need....works great!
Just hiked that last year....lots of great views (Mt. Albert, Wayah Bald, Jump-In, Jump-Off, Cheoah Bald) just to name a few. Then stop at the NOC for a shower and some great food.
