I'm planning a hike from Adams Gap, across Cheaha to Hwy 431, but I'm concerned about parking where the Pinhoti crosses 431.
Any of you got any ideas other than just parking on the shoulder?

So when is the trailhead moving to the actual summit of Flagg Mountain?
Yes, I did. Maybe a half mile or so before the trail meets the FS road again. As I recall it appeared to be more hammock friendly than tent friendly, but it was a good looking spot.
We did this section over the weekend. We elected not to hike up to Burgess since the road bed was overgrown, with no discernible trail. We assumed the top of the mountain would be pretty covered up...
I'm going to be hiking the section between Porter's Gap and Adam's Gap soon and it appears the trail wraps around Burgess Point as opposed to going over the top of it.
I was curious if any of you...
This is just another post to express my frustration that the southern terminus is not at the top of Flagg Mountain. I know it's not under our control, but it makes me feel better to vent.
Maybe...
Great news!
So maybe I missed it, but where exactly is this extension? Is it the first 5.3 miles of the trail?
This is an important distinction that I had overlooked. Thanks for the comment.
My primary question is what are the blazes hurting?
There are plenty of examples that come to mind that make the use of blazes worthwhile, but the only reason I can think of to eliminate them is...
Huh?

The Pinhoti would probably benefit more from a generous donation to buy land than hostels, especially in Georgia, but it is your money/retirement.
What are these issues you speak of and how on...
Blisterbob,
Since you seem to be a good source of Pinhoti info, what sort of obstacles need to be cleared to move the southern terminus to the actual summit of Flag Mtn? The CCC Watchtower seems...
If true (not that I'm doubting you BB, but you did say rumor), this is awesome news. The road walks may be one of the biggest hindrances to the trail's overall popularity.
Now if we could just...
That's good to hear. This was the most hell-acious part of the trail when we hiked it last fall. Absolutely unbearable.
I wonder if they found any bodies when they cleared it out?
Awesome! Thanks for your hard work.
Here is a spreadsheet I put together with the information I've been able to find.
It will be hot and humid. I hiked that area last Labor Day weekend and was in a constant state of perspiration. I slept on top of my sleeping bag each night and had a hard time sleeping as it was...
Nice job hijacking the thread.
And nice job to the SAR team for saving this guy's life. He's very fortunate to be alive.
I'm tall and I'm a side sleeper for the most part. My sleep system consists of a large therma-rest pillow, a long 20 degree cat's meow bag, and a 2" thick thermarest 40th anniversary sleeping pad....
Aside from sticking with step 1, any recomendations for how to complete step 2?
Thanks for the update.
Here's a pic my brother took at Wormy's Pulpit Saturday morning.

Your markings worked. We had no trouble navigating that section, but I did take a couple of pictures. Thanks again for all the work you do for the trail.
My brother and I hiked NB from the Bull Bluff parking area to Porter’s Gap on Friday through Saturday morning. This was an excellent section of trail. It was in very good shape with few blowdowns...
My brother and I hiked this section over the weekend and didn't have any trouble getting to the tower/CCC shelter. Well, that's not entirely true. We foolishly took a 90 degree path and bushwacked to...
