Yes there are resupplies that can be done on foot. But ya doesn't make sense to cache or resupply if you're fast on a trail that is short enough that you can physically carry all that you need.
...
Could also mean overall "non supported". Meaning both self supported and unsupported.
Though due to the length of the long trail and the speeds these people are going we probably won't see...
I think it means "overall unsupported" as in men's and women's. awkward wording for sure. Basically a woman could come along and beat his unsupported time but he'd still have the men's unsupported. I...

THE LONG TRAIL FINISH
WOW! What a night/morning. After many hours filled with drama & excitement (and a wee bit of waiting) the Stringbean finished...
Have not seen an update anywhere else saying what time he finished. Not sure if he's putting stuff on Facebook or not.

Athlete: Joe "Stringbean" McConaughy
Route: Long Trail (VT)
Start date: 2020-06-10
Style: Unsupported
From the email updates... 40 miles to go as of 1pm. Overall not looking likely but at current pace should take a nice chunk out of the unsupported!
Could even be done now 8pm ish. Looking forward...
So some rough morning math....he'd have to average like 5mph for the next 12 from his last post to take the overall I think. The fact he mentioned possibly finishing with his phone flashlight tonight...
According to the email updates his wife has been putting out. Link in his Instagram to sign up...... He's past the AT junction now. Feeling good. Headlamp batteries could be an issue tonight. Hoping...
Very cool, I love interesting mapping technologies. thanks for the inside look at all the stuff you guys have been working on. I'm sure things like this will be useful for future attempts
Just read that he swam across the Kennebec. Pretty cool.
I was lucky enough to come across Harvey last Monday on my first day out doing a section of the Long Trail. It was Totally random I had kinda lost track of where he was leading up to my trip, being...
WOW! This is some very interesting conversation. I love all the "heavy weights" weighing in with very valuable insight. It is much appreciated and I'm loving all of it. Unfortunately almost none of...
Just some speculation and I wish nothing but good vibes on Harvey..... But if he's falling behind while being supported in the south where IIRC string bean wasn't at his best, what's he gonna do up...
Awesome, thanks for the updates
I'm late to the party. But I'm in. I look forward to following along.
Scott jurek on npr talking about new book about at speed record
JB, phone metedata is also far from a panacea. It can be very easily manipulated more so than a sat tracker I would think. I'd imagine the same for sat trackers though, lots of very talented people...
Not sure how to copy text from Instagram but day 18 he's back to running so seems like quad issue has passed he knocked out 49 +miles for the day. Says he's looking forward to the flatter terrain...
This has definitely been fun to watch so far. Seems like he's actually enjoying the trail and not just suffering through.

These are always good threads. IIRC there are a number of threads similar to this on WB. Try searching around for them, some of those folks you mentioned may have posted their experiences previously.
+1 on trail show(annoying at first) , sounds of the trail (inconsistent but good) , pox and puss (especially in the beginning) dirt bag diaries (a little pretentious) trailside radio (defunct)

I've also had mixed results with the mini. I've used it on a half dozen trips or so and always had varying flow rates. I've lost confidence in the mini so I've decided to go to the squeeze now....
