Hi Greentick,
Addressing your main route and questions on that: I don't recall many reliable water sources going up Chestnut Ridge (Old Butt Knob trail 332), this time of year you may find enough...
Hey Walt, not sorry I missed you after seeing the crowds. Wow. Great report as always.
I don't use it much any more but I used to use this BearPaw floor quite a bit with various tarps. It has little plastic tubes sewn in the corners:

oh yeah that's right, that was our first camp, man you need to get back in my neighborhood, I have many more questions for you...lol, for those that don't know: much like Tipi, TN Hiker is a wealth...
fudgefoot, just so you know, I was using a 65 liter Six Moons Design Fusion on that trip...not a small pack, lol
Great to see you again my friend! I was wondering if you made it all the way down to the secret camp on Kirk or stopped at the false gap. That was a ton of road walking too btw. I had no idea about...
Happy Hiking Average Hiker, the BMT is (mostly) a special route IMO, great choice! If you go in summer there may be some bush-whacking / briar-wading in sections as that trail gets nowhere near the...
Yeah in my minds eye I was envisioning the manway junctioning right at the campsite so now I'm wondering also. hmm...it may be better to follow TNhikers plan and start from the bottom
Well excellent, Ken Wise is a friend of mine and we've done many trips together. I'll give him a shout. :) I also have his book somewhere, have to dig it out for sure.
madgoat, I bet that abandoned trail is the manway that TN Hiker told me about. If so, it comes out at the Collins Creek Picnic area. It's on my list to attempt.
Congrats!
Hey if you guys decide to do the Wind River HR, be glad to lend you my map set.:)
In dry times, you may have to keep following downhill to pickup enough flow.
A spring just down the hill from the campsite. It's signed.
Oh yeah, I can't believe you fit that tent into the saddle tree camp below Haoe Peak.
Hey Walter, great report! As you didn't see me in week 3 and might have guessed, I wound up in Grayson Highlands area. Did all the Lewis Fork and Little Wilson trails as well as all the highlands...
Hey Herby, I would advise against leaving your trip dates on a public forum when naming the location where your unattended car will be. But maybe I'm too paranoid.
Thanks for letting us know Ewker. Rain Man will be missed. He was not afraid to be his own person and had the courage of his convictions; I always admired that about him.
yeah man, let's do it! I think you have copper mine to show me too right? :)
OK just got it straight, my wife's great, great grandfather was Fonzie Hall, brother of Crate Hall who built the cabin.
Ya Cable Branch, my mother-in-law grew up there (her maiden name is Hall /related to the Hall family whose name is associated with the cabin at end of Bone Valley) . Her family was one that had to...
Yeah I was thinking of efficiency as least repeated mileage. The postman algorithm is fascinating, thanks for sharing those links Matthew. I've done IT work for distribution companies for many years...
How do they determine the most efficient route? I thought I saw that a University of Tennessee grad student had written a piece of code to calculate that but can't find the reference now. When I...
I know this was posted in an AT general forum and so that could imply a strict context to the question. However, I think it's more about terrain than miles. Many expedition guides seem to subscribe...
Great report! Wow, the brothers Gonzan and Bryan Delay, very cool!
Dan,
I'll offer this as more content for your "pros" column on the Garmin device (assuming the quality is the the same since Garmin purchased Delorme): I've owned a Delorme In Reach SE for...
