  1. I don't wish those were (among) the most memorable pics...

But, the GA Pinhoti is basically roads with trash along them. When it is trail, it's commonly someone else's trail. Either way, blazing at only half-mile intervals is common (even with multiple...
  2. MS update...

Got through the Sunday snowstorm and following 2 nights of very cold weather. Found room in all shelters, amazingly. Over 8 thrus/short sectioners turned back or shelter zeroed due to weather. BIL...

One figure I think you have wrong...

The Pinhoti Trail actually runs more like 325 miles. That's 154 miles in Georgia, and 171 miles in Alabama, after the recent extension to Flagg Mountain south of Sylacauga, AL.

  7. Reached the Northern Terminus of the Pinhoti yesterday...

@ 1:47 P.M. Tuesday Feb. 25th (?), to be more precise. Starting the AT this weekend. Motor home in Dahlonega. It continues to have fuel pumping issues (yes, we need a mechanic for it ASAP). Cash...

    100% serious post here...

Matthewski, you are a kind, gentle soul, a good person all the way to the core. No matter that you are not exactly conventional, you deserve some major happiness, and I hope for that for you. ...

  10. Tagl4ss, my new good friend, you are too modest by far...

    You failed to mention:

    1) that in helping me attach some tape to my staff, you have become part of a very exclusive fraternity of hikers who have done work on one of my staves (Dances With Mice...

    That's about...

When I think I'll be hitting Amicalola myself. Of course, I have 122 miles of the Pinhoti to finish first, otherwise I'd be on the AT already...
  12. Short version...

Shelters still too few (esp. south of Cheaha, where essentially absent) but AL clubs getting much of that fixed fast in northern part of Pinhoti. First 3 sections of Pinhoti don't even have a trail...
  13. Poor choice IMO...

    "You" meaning Baltimore Jack.

I was thinking more like Randy Quaid. :D
  14. Actually, I think we have it right so far...

    1) The official signs saying the Pinhoti in the section between I-20 and AL 281 was closed were still in place there as of when I hiked to the southern end of it at roughly 4:00 PM yesterday, Tuesday...
  15. Minnesota Smith aided by trail angel at Adams Gap.

Hello to all you hikers. I have a cabin about 1.5 miles south of Adams Gap and along with Minnesota Smith and his vast knowledge of hiking and hikers, we are going to establish a hiker's box and a...
  16. Rough draft of some of what's going in the Pinhoti journal...

Day 1: Dropped off at Pinhoti southern terminus on Flagg Mountain, via road of same name. Tried to drive up to summit, but stopped from going the last ~300 yards by a locked gate. Was considering...
  17. Pics on the Trail...

We have two dispo cameras from our hike thus far (with over 40 pics that came out) developed to CDs, but this computer system won't upload them for some reason. They'll be posted on the Pinhoti...
  18. Road walk...

The first 34 miles of the Pinhoti are road walking, with all but the first mile or so and the Trammel Motorway paved. The latter has a highly ironic name, given its status of being dirt and in the...
  19. Status....

We made it to Porter's Gap near Talledega on Wednesday 12/31/08. Think that is about 15 miles south of Cheaha State Park, maybe 52 miles from Flagg Mountain. Went into Talladega to clean up (had 4...

I'd advise LD hikers look elsewhere for protein...

Summer sausage, like regular SPAM and Vienna Sausage, has a great deal of fat, especially saturated fat, that is in place of the desired protein, that a hiker pays for, and lugs, without payoff. All...

    Update...

Faithwalker and I will start our thruhike tomorrow, 12/20. We're still doing the Pinhoti first right before. Rough estimate is we'll hit Amicalola about Jan. 30th.

Yeah, it'll be cold some, but...
