I'll be a day behind you! I'm summiting on the 2nd and heading south on the 3rd. Hope to see you out there.
The AT lodge offers a food drop service for around $25 I think. Other places in the area both north and south of the HMW offer similar services.
Thank you for the feedback, I read others posts and that they have been doing a similar method by diluting and soaking clothing. I will give it a try. Thanks :)
I just received my order in the mail. I purchased Martin's Permethrin 10% and was going to use it to soak all clothing and spray gear. However, on the Q&A portion of the website it specifically...
Glad I asked the question and got everyone's input! I purchased the polycro today and it should arrive just in time for the start of my hike. Thanks again all!
As long as the ticks can't tell a difference then I'll be happy :)
Thanks for the advice everyone, it is much appreciated... and so is saving the $70!
I am using a closed-cell foam sleeping pad (at least to start off), so no danger of it puncturing.
I will...
Thank you both for the help.
The footprint that goes with the tent is advertised as helping keep the tent dry. However, the tent itself is waterproof so I would assume that should work well...
Thanks for all the information, am ordering some today in preparation!
I am ordering the Martin's 10% solution which I will dilute down to a .5%-1% solution. Does the starting solution make any...
I am making last minute preparations for my SOBO hike starting in July.
I am using a Big Agnes Fly Creek tent. Is purchasing the additional footprint for $70 worth it? It weighs 5oz, alternatively...
I've finalized dates and will be summiting Katahdin on July 2nd and heading south on the 3rd. Hope to see people out there!
How'd the prep hike go?
I have decided to start SOBO during the first week of July and just go slower in the beginning to acclimate. I liked the idea of a short flip-flop but the added logistical...
No trail name yet

See everyone out there!
Do you have a definitive start date yet? I also want to begin early July but haven't finalized dates yet.
Ah THANK YOU! I've been compiling a gear list from everything from clothing, to stoves, to footwear and everything in between. It has been a daunting task but exciting. I very much appreciate your...
Hi Robin,
I don't have plans finalized yet but am also tentatively thinking of starting SOBO around the first or second week of July. It seems like a pretty typical time for south bounders to...
I love spin class, I also train with a trainer 3x a week and will be hiking the trail to Machu Picchu in early June. I've done a 30 day hike down the Baja coast of Mexico for a NOLS (national outdoor...
Thank you for the tip Salty, I definitely will stop in! I'm wondering if I can't find reputable sources closer to where I am. We have a Bill Jackson's but prices are crazy, there's also a large Bass...
Thank you for the advice! I will definitely look into that. I like the idea of starting farther north and going at a slower pace to begin so I can adjust and acquire my trail legs before taking on...
Hi All,
I plan on beginning my hike in mid July this year. I need some advice on logistics.
I can either begin in Maine and go SOBO the entire way. The advantages include starting with a group in...
Hi Namaste,
I like the idea of Floridians sticking together! I was hoping to start a little earlier around the 10th or so but am open to talking about it more! I am still in the research phase and...
Hi All,
I am planning on beginning in July as well, most likely mid month. I do not feel confident/ comfortable enough to begin my SOBO hike solo through the 100 miles due to all I've read warning...
