As a former type 2 diabetic, it was my first thought as well. That's one of the first signs that you exhibit when diabetic- I could never get enough fluid in me at times.

The above link will take you to the gear page with some vendor details in several articles.
What are you carrying the Canon and lens in? Searching for options now for my Nikon D3100 to carry with me.
There is a distinct lack of hot water on the trail and the temperatures needed to make a difference would burn someone. Soap and cold water would do just as well. I believe, after somehow avoiding it...
I just returned from the podiatrist and ordered orthotics for my upcoming thru hike. I used a pair last year and I believe that it helped. I had no blisters and kept my feet in much better shape than...
Chicken or beef bouillon cubes- helps flavor mashed potatoes, Small bottle of Texas Pete. Small bottle of olive oil.
I would go with the Montbell UL parka- it's cheaper and lighter.
It's a simple rule, really. 4 spots in each 12 man shelter are reserved for thru-hikers. (weather events may increase the number that can fit) As long as there are no other hikers with reservations,...
I have been a life-long insomniac. The most complete, refreshing sleep I've ever had was on a air mattress in my tent on my attempt last year. For some of us, it works.
Reminds me of The Foxfire Book and magazines my parents used to have. I love reading about the mountain culture and society.

28 hikers leaving according to 2014 Thru-hike registry just on Whiteblaze between 3/8 and 3/14. There will be plenty of others as well that never bothered to register. You will find lots of fellow...
Yep, that's how it works. I thru hiked the Smokies last year and my group of 5 were at a Spence Field shelter (capacity 12) and a group of 8 high school seniors with permit and 2 other thru hikers. 3...
Chicken, beef or veggie bullion cubes work well and very light.
Thanks for the link. I guess I'll start looking in Wally World and Radio Shack. My buying habits aren't very American either. My car is 18 years old and I just bought a 28 year old VW Vanagon. I like...
NoBo March 20th'ish. I was supposed to do this last year. Perhaps we can continue this year. Good luck with the project.
O.k, I'm sold...just what is the name of this mp3 player or brand. Thanks.
I wore the Patagonia Cap 2 base layer, top/bottom constantly till VA. I had the Cap 3 for camp. It worked well for me as the heavier shirt kept the sleeping bag relatively clean as well as staying...
I encountered multiple abandoned tents on my attempt last year. I had no idea on the protocol for this, but I usually called out to see if anyone was still in the area. It probably bothered me more...
Doesn't everyone usually carry a smartphone these days? My phone has a compass, works like a champ. GPS- check. Have the entire AT map set and an AT guide app on there as well. Battery back-up and...
This thread is from July...why is it still open?
I used Scout UL2 for 800 miles this year on my attempt. I thought it was a palace for the weight- 1lb 9oz. It could suck to pitch in a hurry till you learned how, but overall a great tent. Never...

I have the ULA Catalyst which I believe is a bit bigger than the Circuit. I use Sea-to-Summit compression bag for my sleeping bag- Versalite.
