Sounds good. I guess the big thing is that I won't have to share campsites. I'm really looking forward to the solitude. Thanks for your help, everyone!

No Facebook for me, but I appreciate the suggestion. I never touch the stuff.
How will parking be safer in more than a week? Do you mean from people or the elements? That's what I figure I'll do. Thanks. I'm not in Denver but I guess I could park near Section 1...
Can you explain a bit more? I don't understand how looking at 14ers.com helps to know what's up with the CT. I don't know Colorado geography. Is the thing to do to look at every map for every...
I don't understand, then. I'm looking at the CT Website's page for snow and they say zero inches. Is that the "SNOTEL" page? Is there some other thing I should be looking at? But I think even if...
If I'm reading the following page correctly, there is no snow left on the CT and that should mean that it's safe to start: [http://www.coloradotrail.org/snowandweather.html] (And if I'm not reading...
Since Sections 1 and 2 look like they'll be closed, does anyone know a good place to park long-term at Section 3?
I have no experience but I had a similar thread a few weeks ago and the general suggestions I got were to budget about $1000/month. So that's what I've budgeted. I can't imagine eating on $50/week....
Of course I don't have a smartphone! And it's not like the moral issues aren't in the news every day.
No such thing as a good view when the sun is out so I think I'll do the east route. Thanks!
Do you know of anywhere else to find the info. Facebook and google and a bunch of other stuff are blocked for moral reasons where i'm staying.
Excellent. As soon as I run some errands in a town with a Home Depot, I'll pick some up. Thanks!
Does anyone know where to go for thorough trail conditions updates? I've seen this site: [http://www.coloradotrail.org/snowandweather.html] But maybe I'm not reading it right? Either that or it...
How forested was the west? Were you exposed to the sun? I'm trying to be under canopy whenever possible. I try to never ever be in the sun if I can avoid it. Would you say then that East would be...
BTW I don't use Windows. I'm using Firefox. Weird that that doesn't work.
I just tried this method today. I don't think I'll stick with it but it's good to know something new. Thanks for the info!
I've never done the AT, so that's not my comparison. I'm used to day hikes where I literally don't see anyone for my 6 hour hike. I've heard that the AT is really bad (or good, if you're into...
Okay, sounds like I'll be carrying a Sawyer filter and using it except for when I feel really confident that I don't need it. Or maybe I'll just bring coffee filters and iodine drops? Not sure, yet.
That's (mostly) reassuring. The one time I did a backpacking trip in Colorado, I cut it short because there were so many people. Just totally ruined the experience and I haven't been back. I guess...
Thanks for that but I meant where did you get them, like in town. A hardware store was my first guess but they didn't have them. I don't order things online. I did have an Amazon gift card that I...
I just have a mix that requires water and an egg. I also have a few bags of powdered vegan egg substitute that I got for free, with the free potato pankake mix. Dumpster diving has its benefits - I...
Thanks for all of the advice. Since you all helped me so much, I thought you might want to know what I decided on: My main cup/pot is not going to be the 500ml Olicamp but instead will be my ol'...
I read another post where a guy was afraid he'd get lonely on the CT and everyone seemed to reply to say that there would be lots of people around. That scares me, so I have the opposite question:...
I know you're "supposed to" purify your water. But did you actually do it on the CT?
