Planning a section thru VT, MA, CT this summer. Can you camp anywhere in MA and CT like you can in the south or does it have to be in designated campsites?

From Deep Gap take the Kimsey Creek Trail about 4 miles to Standing Indian Campground, excellent place to get picked up. That's where I ended my Georgia section several years ago.
NOC would be better than Stecoah Gap if parking for an extended period.
There's an alternative to the stairs. Right behind the visitor's center, where the trail starts, there is also the East Ridge Trail which is the original AT Approach before the stairs were built. ...

I, too had service there (tmobile). North of the AT crossing at Wine Spring, I think all the way to Cheoah, I had no service.

I wouldnt recommend that roadwalk with dogs, I wouldnt recommend it with no dogs. Most of those roads don't really have shoulders. And the crossing of 441 is a little treacherous. I know The Hike...

I always carry three 20 oz. powerade bottles if it's a dry section. If there's a lot of available water, I'll only carry one and fill up at each water source.
there's a different Bartram trail in AL, near Tuskegee. And one near Augusta, GA, and in FL. They're real short state park trails. Same man they are named after but different trails.
