Tinker,
Seeing as you are a hammock hanger perhaps we should talk. Hammocks on the northern half are not as easy as I thought they would be. Let me know if you want to chat on the phone and I can...

I just completed a thru hike of the LT today and water was fine everywhere with the exception of the high ridge section that includes Mansfield. Theron Dean shelter was just a trickle but has been...
Nobody should worry about fording the Big Branch right now. I was just there and it is nothing at all. River level is low and you can actually get across in many places without even getting your...
I live near the trail by Manchester, VT. If I am around when you come through here just give me a call, if you have a cell on you, and I can come and get you and show you where everything is in...
I have hiked numerous sections already this season. While not as bad as past years the mud is there as well as blowdowns. Tread lightly on our trail for now. It will dry out.
I will try to find it and post it here but there is a guy on TrailJournals.com who is posting on his AT thru-hike and he has his dog. His posts are amazing. His dog barks all night, steals peoples...
Not too familiar with how TrailJournals.com works but can't you just do it with an Iphone?
Beginning of June in Maine you will need to bathe in DEET three times a day! Good luck on your hike but bring bug spray and a headnet.
Jeff,
Looks like you ran into the same conditions as I did. I had snowshoes though but didn't go all the way to Douglas at all as I had an afternoon appointment. Walking on the snowmobile trail...
Here is the only knife I bring hiking...

My dog walks about 10 yards in front of me almost all of the time. You won't confuse her with a feral dog wearing her red pack and sleeping pad strapped on top.
If I say heel she immediately comes...
Here is a pic from Prospect Rock last week. About four feet of snow but it has been warmer and rained all yesterday and last night so I am sure it is less now...
I agree with the comments on Prospect Rock. The side trail from the Rock into town is steep and the last thing you want to do is stuff yourself with food and have to climb it at the end of the day....
The Long Trail is a great trail for hammockers. I know the whole trail from MA. to Rte. 4 and there isn't a spot that you can't hang. I imagine the northern section is the same with the exception of...
I am planning an E2E starting with the first good weather window after the first week of August. Finalizing gear, making hammock modifications, figuring out the menu and building a chicken coop at...
I have three Brietlings. One actually has an EPIRB in it. Fancy that.
HIked up to Prospect Rock this morning and did a section towards Stratton just to see what it was like and that area seemed no worse than normal so the damage is probably limited to certain sections.
You can knock a pound off that pack instantly by removing the strap laden top pocket. It is an awkward fanny pack at best and you have plenty of room for everything without it.
Go to Amazon and get "Travel Light - Eat Heavy". Only trail food book I know of that actually has a system for calories. No dehydrating needed and everything can be bought at a supermarket. Great...
If you make it as far as Vermont I can pick you up near Manchester and offer you a shower and dry bed if not in August as I am doing a thru hike of the Long Trail around then. Good luck. Hope you...
I wish you luck my friend! Pop me an email when you get to Vermont and I will pick you up and treat you to a dinner and a washer/dryer!
I bet you crave your first cheeseburger after a week...
Hey Jeff! I was at Grout Pond, similar elevation to the LT in that section, and saw lots of tree damage while tracking a Long Tailed Weasel. Never got a photo of him though!
A few nights ago we had a major wind event here in Vermont. Here in the valley we had lots and lots of tree damage. I drove up near the trail today and there is some real carnage. If you are...
Ha! Got me. This post is ancient! Hope she made it!
Casper,
I am planning on doing my NOBO trip starting in early August but plan on doing some section hikes before then to get in shape. I live near the trail and if you were planning to do a...
