Thanks for the offer, my price wouldn't be at all fair right now though, those are good packs. The one I got should work for some longer hikes for a while, it's for practice basically until I can...
Well I finally got the backpack I ordered when I made my opening post, it had gotten lost in shipping and they had to resend it. I like to be a smart shopper and try to save money where I can but...
Interesting opinions so far. I spent much more for a decent tent for my trip next year which will take months, and more than likely I'll get a better backpack for that hike as well, I'll be doing a...
I just bought this backpack to practice with untill I get a better one next year for my long trip....

Thanks for the tips so far everyone, they've been helpful. If I think of some more questions on this I'll post them, and check this forum periodically for new post.
One last thing, I did all these charges with the phone off rather than in sleep mode, if it's completly off you'll get more of a charge. Charging at night is usually how I do it.
I've read about some options, and found a cheap alternative, and one of them is working very well for me. I do have a battery backup, one with a high MAH rating is smart to have, id recommend one of...
I hear you on both parts I really do. I'll have roughly a 300 dollar limit on the sleeping bag unfortunately. I would go higher for sure to get a more expensive one, but it wont be possible for me....
Haha Wyoming, guess I had that one coming :P
Venchka
Thanks man, I also found this to modify my heavy list that was in my first forum....

I pitched my tent again, outside with the stakes this time, and I slept in it overnight. It rained later that night but the tent kept the water out for the most part, well I should say I didn't get...
I'll be back on here later on, thanks for the info so far, it's giving me ideas.
I'm going to get on the AT soon :) I don't have a car as of now, but I could walk there. I have a tent and cheap backpack that'll be suitable for an overnight, and can bring other stuff I need from...
Here's another big one....
How far apart is the power? I'm assuming it's only in towns, I'm not expecting outlets on the trail of course :P
But how does that work? If your in a town where...
That puts my mind at ease some. As of now I'm thinking of going perhaps 15 miles a day. 50 miles in two days is impressive, but enjoying myself at a comfortable pace is the most important thing to...
Hey, thanks for the link. There're several guides for sale here, I'm thinking the Northbound book and pdf will be the one I need, I just have to wait for payday again. I spent a lot on my tent this...
I have several questions this time, oriented around distance.
I live in the north west section of North Carolina, north of Mars Hill. It's close to the Tennessee state line, and within a few miles...
I'm going to practice setting it up a lot, if possible with the rain fly first. I suppose I could do it by staking it into the ground first and guess what the footprint of the bottom is, then spread...
I recieved the tent a couple days ago and couldn't wait to set it up, I pitched the tent in my apartment livingroom, everything seems to be intact and I'm happy with the weight, it's very light...
As many people who can read this please do, I'm hoping we can start over and redirect a little bit, I know the post is long.
To those who have helped, I like the website, and have clicked with...
I understand, and don't take offense to your tips there. Prior to my first post I didn't know what the range for weight was exactly. Common sense, my bad beach trip, and wearing workout weights...
Not ignorant, learning yes ;) I came in with hiking knowledge, and a little backpacking knowladge, I'm still taking on info on the latter. I know some of what doesn't work based on some experience,...
I think your right that hikers have different weight loads they'll bring from what I'm hearing. You have ultra lights, medium weights, and heavy weights so it seems. I'm going to find a reasonable...
It'll all be good, I have a 35 pound limit I'm thinking, I really dont want to go over 40. (perhaps a bit heavy but not ridiculous) As I buy stuff I'll check the weight, and check the weight of...
Cant wait to get this tent, there seems to be a delay now in the processing though, LL Bean hasn't charged my account yet. As soon as I get it I'm going to pitch it, and maybe spend a night in it in...
Venchka I think I went with the 2 person tent because I saw the 1 and 2 person tents didn't have a huge difference in weight. The main reason is that I want room for my Backpack (which will be...
